Here we go. Tottenham transfer think-tank…

Tottenham transfer news cause it's nearly January...well, almost nearly...

It’s slowly coming up to that time of year again when the transfer window reopens. Those of us who are fans of the “bigger” clubs might refer to it as silly season, the time of year when almost every player in the world and their gran is linked to every club in the top 4-6 of every league, especially the Premier League. As a fan it gets extremely tiring seeing EVERYBODY signing for the club, only for nobody to actually sign, not that it’s needed. That’s a story for another time though! Today, we’re here to take a look at Tottenham Hotspur, analyse the potential incomings and outgoings now they’re in the Antonio Conte era.

I don’t know how many of you get involved in silly season, but there are plenty of gambling forums you can go on to discuss the transfer window with other like minded people, if you’re like me and see odds that seem too good to be true or you’ve just recently signed up to a new sportsbook and want to take advantage there will be plenty of movement in January to look forward to and you know what that means? More chances to make a few bucks.

Could Harry Kane see a move out of Spurs materialise in January or will he have to wait until the summer? Source: The Irish Times

Speaking of making a few bucks, what’re the odds on Harry Kane to leave in January huh? Man City spent £100m on Jack Grealish in the summer but it doesn’t appear to be going well right now, especially when their real “problem position” would be up top, a top tier centre forward/striker would seriously transform them into a genuine powerhouse, like they were when they had Aguero and I guess when he was fit and everyone and their grandma had Harry Kane linked to fill that position, he pushed for a move in the summer but that move never came.

So how would Harry Kane leaving Spurs impact them this season? Well based on his form this season for Spurs, probably not a lot, in fact if they could get good money for him, it would probably benefit them quite a lot. Given the fact he has 1 goal and 1 assist in 11 games (918 minutes) in the league? It just isn’t good enough and at that point City can have him. But when you look at last season and the season before (23 goals 14 assists and 18 goals 2 assists) it would be a huge miss.

Even in Europe Kane hasn’t exactly been great. He missed the didn’t score in their 2-2 draw Away in Rennes, he got a hat trick at home against *checks notes* NS Mura…, didn’t play the away game in Vitesse but got 1 assist in a 3-2 win over Vitesse at home. Like, Kane, mate it’s the Europa Conference League, you should be smashing goals past these clubs for fun. But here we are. If you ask me, get him out of the club, don’t necessarily think he should go to City but if they’re going to throw big money at Spurs for him then I wouldn’t blame them for taking it. Who knows, maybe he’ll get his act together now Conte is there.

Alright so, if Kane does leave, whether it’s January or in the summer, who could feasibly replace him? Ultimately it boils down to a few things. If they get £100m for him, there’s no reason why they couldn’t go for a big name to replace him. Picture this, Erling Braut Haaland getting fed by Heung-Min Son. He would genuinely tear the Premier League apart and in my opinion, would offer WAY more in terms of global marketability and performances FOR THE TEAM than a player like Harry Kane ever could. You kind of get sick of seeing coaches pander to Kane, making him captain and stuff. Would a captain argue with his team that a goal was his when it clearly wasn’t? I don’t think so.

There’s also the potential of signing somebody along the lines of Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan, who has an estimated transfer value of around £65-70million, however if you sell Kane for £100m that valuation likely goes up to around £75-80 if not more. Martinez has 6 goals and 1 assist in Serie A this season, 12 games and 700 minutes played, not too shabby. Could he be the man to send Spurs to the next level? Only time would tell.

That’s going to do it for this one, do you think Harry Kane might finally get the move he wants away from Spurs? Should he knuckle down and put the work in or is he right to spit his dummy? It seems contracts really do mean nothing in football today. He should really thank himself lucky to be playing for a club like Spurs. Anyway, until next time. Take care everybody!
