Spurs are one of the most successful and decorated clubs in the English game and although in recent years, they’ve been unable to replicate their trophy-laden campaigns of the 1960s and 1970s, there are still a number of eye-catching records and statistics which have been achieved over the last four or five decades. We’ve taken a closer look at some of the most impressive records that have been recorded by the club and the players that have proudly represented the North London outfit.

The First Team to Score Two or More Premier League Goals in each UEFA Champions League

Although Spurs’ Champions League adventure ended at the quarter-final stage, Harry Redknapp’s men were prolific during the group stage of the tournament. They netted 18 times across the six Group A matches and even though they were beaten 4-3 by Inter at the San Siro, Gareth Bale still managed to net a hat-trick. They were tremendously entertaining to watch and although they conceded 11 times during the group stage, they miraculously kept consecutive clean sheets against Milan in the round of 16.

Most Premier League Goals Scored in a Calendar Year – Harry Kane

Harry Kane has dominated the Premier League goal-scoring charts since bursting onto the scene in 2014. The striker scored 39 times throughout 2017 surpassing Alan Shearer’s record of 36. He ended the year in superb style by notching a hat-trick against Southampton and it is likely to take something special to knock the 29-year old off top spot.

Kane has been excellent for both club and country and with all of the best betting sites having made him favourite to win the 2022 World Cup Golden Boot, he is expected to continue his superb form in Qatar throughout November and December.

The First Team to Win the FA Cup and Top Flight Double in a Single Season

The 1960s were a hugely enjoyable time to be a Spurs supporter and the Lilywhites became the first team to clinch the both the FA Cup and the First Division Championship under Bill Nicholson. They beat Leicester at Wembley to secure the FA Cup title shortly after lifting the First Division Championship trophy against Sheffield Wednesday in mid-April.

Most Goals Scored in One Half of a Premier League Game by a Single Team

Although Spurs hold the joint-record for scoring nine goals in a single match, their 9-1 victory over Wigan in 2009 still holds the record for the most goals scored in one half of football by a single team. The Latics capitulated in the second half as Jermaine Defoe notched five times in North London. Peter Crouch, David Bentley, Aaron Lennon and Niko Kranjcar also found the net in a truly one-sided 90 minutes at White Hart Lane.

First Club to Win the UEFA Cup (1972)

When the UEFA Cup began in 1972, the finals were played over two legs. Spurs took a 2-1 aggregate lead back to North London before settling for a 1-1 draw in the second leg. This was enough to lift the trophy and write their names into the history books. That was just one of two triumphs in the competition for the Lilywhites, although they came close to securing their second success in 1974, losing 4-2 on aggregate to Feyenoord.

Most Goals in a Single Season

Clive Allen is one of many players to have written themselves into the Spurs history books when the prolific forward fired in 49 goals during a hugely productive 1986-87 campaign. The 5-time England international also won the PFA and Writer’s Association Player of the Year awards for his endeavours throughout the campaign. He scored 60 goals in total before making the switch to Bordeaux in 1988.

Record Attendance

Although many modern day football fans believe that the competition has lost its magic, Spurs have enjoyed plenty of success in the FA Cup over the last six or seven decades. Nevertheless, it’s an event that has always attracted decent crowds, and in 1938, Spurs clocked up a record attendance of 75,038 when they faced Sunderland in the sixth round of the competition. Despite the bumper crowd, Spurs suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Wearsiders.

Longest Unbeaten Run – 22 Games

Although Spurs’ glory period came in the early 1960s, the club oversaw their longest unbeaten run at the end of the 1950s. They managed to avoid defeat in 22 consecutive games en-route to securing the Second Division title. They haven’t been able to match this feat in recent seasons, with their longest unbeaten run in the modern era coming in 2020 with the club managing to clock up 14 matches without defeat.

Most Club Appearances – Steve Perryman

Spurs have had a number of loyal players over the years, however, Steve Perryman’s commitment is unlikely to be matched. The midfielder turned out 854 times for the club, 655 of which came in the league. He is a cult hero at the club and helped guide the club to FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup victories during his 17-year stint in North London.

Highest Number of Players to Represent England (78)

Spurs have had the highest number of players to feature for England with 78 of them having represented their country. Although they currently have very few representatives, the club have contributed heavily over the years with Glenn Hoddle, Jimmy Greaves and Gary Lineker having all turned out for the Three Lions.
