Spurs’ Interest In Villa Starlet Should Be Right, But It Won’t Happen
The 2023/24 Premier League campaign turned into another tight one for a while before certain sides ran out of energy and form, and ultimately and disappointingly, Tottenham Hotspur limped over the line to fifth place in the table, ending the campaign with defeats.
Gaffer, Ange Postecoglou, is naturally looking to improve on that finish and our end of season form ahead of the coming campaign and if we get our summer moves right betpanda bitcoin casino table games would be weighted in our favour next season. As Spurs fans will know, he did not really mince his words last year when it came to certain issues – some may have appreciated that honesty, others may have found it to be more of an excuse for his own failings, but either way he wants to turn the options back in his favour for success.
Whichever side of the fence you fall, 2024/25 bring new and restored hope for better and we have already done some notable deals this summer (inwards and outwards), but of course, far more is expected during the true summer transfer window as we edge towards August’s kick off and the eventual deadline day.
One of the latest links to appear on the speculation rumour mill is a potential interest in Aston Villa’s Academy starlet, Jacob Ramsey. The reports suggest that we may be looking at some kind of cash plus swap deal (all the rage this summer are swaps) that would involve Giovani Lo Celso being involved in a deal for the 23 year old, 16 capped England Under 21 international attacking midfielder.
Spurs are reportedly still tracking Jonathan David, Pedro Neto and Lois Openda this summer, as attacking options are apparently rated highly on Postecoglou’s target shortlist.
Lo Celso has been linked loosely with the Midlands side previously, and following all the Jack Grealish speculation, Ramsey soon appeared as an apparent long term interest for us, so how true this speculation might be is wildly open for debate.
If even slightly accurate though, 56 capped Argentine international Lo Celso, would be the more obvious player out in the eyes of many, as it is not unfair to say he has often struggled to show his skills in the English top flight. On a comparative age front, Ramsey already has a better productivity return despite the issues he has had with injuries.
From Lo Celso’s point of view, a big link in the speculation is that he has already played under their manager, Unai Emery, at two different clubs – Paris Saint-Germain and Villarreal – so he is a known quantity from their point of view. Equally, the ties go deeper. Our technical director, Johan Lange, knows Ramsey well from the stint he spent as Villa’s sporting director before taking on the job we offered him.
The main issue from our point of view would be cost. Villa’s potential Profit and Sustainability Rules position has been well documented in the media, but having already willingly lost less favoured highly rated graduates, Ramsey is seen as a key player in their set up.
We are unlikely to get change from £40 million, even if that was enough to bring them to the table. With 21 appearances across all competitions last season before his season came to an end, many in B6 would point out how their form and performance levels dropped when he was no longer an option.
It is fully understandable as to why we would hold an interest in him, and we should on that kind of talent. But I see no reason as to why this would ever come to fruition given Villa have an unexpected Champions League adventure to look forward to, and certainly not at the valuation they would hold on him, to even open tentative talks.
With those out of favour under the current gaffer, we will undoubtedly raise cash this summer, but we can surely spend it a lot better. That alone would be an improvement, would it not.
