I think there may be even more to come from Lamela, I reckon he may get a few more goals this year. I love his attitude and still amazed by his transformation.

Lamela is one of our most improved players and can only get better. His attitude and commitment has been first class since he arrived. If we're an ambitious club we don't sell players like Eric Lamela.

Why does everyone all of a sudden think he's replacing Lamela?
A word on Lamela.

I love him, and he finally seems to be hitting his groove with Spurs (as some have pointed out, his absence was very much felt against Liverpool away).
However, he is currently three years into a five year contract, meaning he only has two years left. The question is then whether he's happy to sign a contract extension and commit to the club.

If he's not willing to do that, then now is the time to sell (in Levy's eyes) as he still retains significant value in the market. Waiting until next year to sell him (again, if he doesn't want to sign a new deal) would force us to take a much lower amount of money.

Alas, the same could probably said for Eriksen.

I really hope they extend their contracts sooner rather than later.

Fair point, well made

i see Alli being the direct replacement to Mousa when he's not able to play. Alli will be a center midfielder more than an attcking one

Not the best way to measure a player, but Alli played in a midfield 3 for England and was shit.

He wasn't anything special when playing CM for us last season either, then moves to AM and gets YPOTY. He's an attacking midfielder who makes late runs, great technical skill in tight places and the ability to nutmeg people. I don't see how that skill set is positive for a CM.

His range if passing isn't incredible (I don't think I've ever seen him hit a Diag) and his defensive abilities aren't incredible either. He's an AM all day long.

He's 20.

But I can't say I'm overwhelmed at the prospect of Gotze

His stats are actually pretty impressive, despite a poor season where he was out of favour

2014-2015
48 Apps
15 Goals
7 Assists
3357 Minutes Played
Contributes to a goal every 152 minutes

2015-2016
21 Apps
6 Goals
4 Assists
1219 Minutes Played
Contributes to a goal every 121 minutes

In terms of output per game, he's actually improved from 2014. The main issue is that he's nowhere near the performance levels he was hitting in 2012-2013 (Making a goal every 89 minutes) and 2013-2014 (Making a goal every 100 minutes). This raises questions over whether he ever can hit that level again or if he's on a slow decline at the age of 24.

He wouldn't replace any of our attacking trio behind Kane. Which means he would be a very expensive bench warmer at over £100k a week. And he does look out of condition for a £100k a week athlete.

As such, unless Poch feels he can get him back up to his past level of performance, then he's not an upgrade on what we presently have. In my opinion anyway.

And if we are going to drop the sort of money he will command in transfer fee & wages, then I think it has to be an immediate upgrade

I think thinking in this way is folly at this point.

Last season I thought Dier moving into DM was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of, he looked awful in pre-season and many on here agreed. Then he becomes the best DM in the league.

You can't possibly know if he'll replace them or not, Poch often surprises us. The idea that "He wouldn't replace any of our attacking trio" is a complete assumption based on limited knowledge.

"Bench Warmer" tends to mean an inferior player you only turn to when someone is injured. I don't think anyone in our team is a "Bench warmer". Davies coming in for Rose or Trippier for Walker barely impacts the team anymore, that's how good our back up options are. Poch is clearly trying to make a team that could be any 11 and still be world class, it amazes me that people still don't fully get this or refer to it, instead seeing a traditional "First 11, first attacking trio" with everyone else being "bench warmer". That isn't how modern football is going, especially not Tottenham. Those statements are Redknapp era.

Poch doesn't want an A-Team. He wants a rotating 23-25 man squad that can always win. Gotze fits into this.

I don't know about you, but in a must win game with 20 mins to go I'd rather bring on Gotze than Pritchard. This "Bench warmer" would win us far more points than one might think.

Everything amazes you J. I'm not surprised.

Of course Poch wants an A team. He also needs a plan B when his system isn't working. If any manager could, they would field the same team week in week out whilst it was winning. Leicester win the league barely shuffling their pack. Chelsea also won titles when they didn't mess around with the team too much. Modern football is a squad game, admittedly, but every single manager has their preferred starting XI

Gotze would not displace Alli, Eriksen or Lamela in our line up. He would be a back up.

Bayern average a 'goal contribution' once every 19 minutes though - just to put things into context.
