Transfers Summer 2016 Transfer Window Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Gotze, or a player like him, makes sense.

By many accounts this offseason, Spurs wanted to bring in a CDM, ST, and Attacking Mid and had a war chest of 60ish million pounds to spend. We signed Wanyama quickly spending 11 million pounds. War chest down to 49 million pounds.

Since the beginning of the offseason, Spurs have been linked to Batsfuckboy and were ready to pay a transfer fee of 30 million pounds, but we were not able to agree on wages. Instead we went with plan B Vincent Janssen who we'll sign for a round 17 million pounds.

That leaves us with an attacking mid to sign and 32 million pounds left to spend. Gotze is capable of playing any 3 positions behind the striker, something that Poch wants in an AM. Wages is the main issue, but if he's on 115K/week that's not totally out of our budget.

I'm not saying Gotze will happen, but it's not entirely out of the question.

I think if it does happen, Levy will do some wage trickery to keep him under the £100k mark - like bonuses or a large signing on fee to pad out the contract.

Also if we sell one or two players thats more money for buying. Reckon we will get probably about 4 players overall and sell 2-3 by the time the window is done. Waynama and Janssen pretty much done is a great start.

When clubs talk about a transfer budget they mean transfer fee plus wages over the contract

So Wanyama will have been circa £11m + £2m pa over 5 years = £21m (not even factoring signing on fee)

Then if Janssen is £17m + £2m pa over 5 years = £27m

Leaves £12m......at which point we'll have to sell or settle for what we have

So when we sell a player does ENIC then factor in the remaining contract value when recalculating the pot / kitty / war chest ?
I.e sold for £10m and had 2 year remaining @ £2m pa so total increase in transfer budget = £14m

I've never heard this before. Source?

Seems a really weird way to balance the books. I cannot see how it could be true :llorisunsure:

I have heard that before in terms of quoted transfer values* in media sources but you are right as in the sense of not used for accounting purposes not least as does not reflect actual payment schedules or agent's fees etc etc.

*Fairly sure no one actually quotes transfer / wage budgets publicly

It was implemented at the end of the 2012/13 season and created as a booklet to help PL managers.

Called the "Adebuyer's guide to mousetrap signings" :adeohshit:

It wasn't really, that's just a crap excuse for a joke

INTER TO MOVE FOR LAMELA?

Inter Milan are considering a move for Tottenham's Erik Lamela, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The former Roma man made 34 Premier League appearances for Spurs last term, having initially struggled at White Hart Lane.

He moved to Tottenham for £25.8m in 2013.

Ever Banega has just signed for Inter on a free. Erik's on holiday with him at the mo (see the Lamela thread), so you never know how much there might be in these things?

i wouldn't sell Lamela. just for an out of this world offer and i mean, Levy money

He'll be at some championship team in 2 or 3 years no doubt.
When will they ever learn

He won't be thinking of that, though...

I can't quite tell if Poch likes him, or is frustrated by him. Be interesting to see, if an offer does come in.

If we sold Lamela and bought Gotze, I wonder what the consensus would be?

I think there may be even more to come from Lamela, I reckon he may get a few more goals this year. I love his attitude and still amazed by his transformation.

Lamela is one of our most improved players and can only get better. His attitude and commitment has been first class since he arrived. If we're an ambitious club we don't sell players like Eric Lamela.
