Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I think Comolli must have been on the take from Hertha Berlin......we signed Boateng and Gilberto off them inside 6 months, actually paid a fee for Gilberto when he was available for free 6 months later.

Wikipedia tells me the Prince was at Milan again, but: On 25 May 2016, club owner Silvio Berlusconi announced his departure, along with those of Alex, Phillippe Mexes and Mario Balotelli.

Gilberto, quite possibly the worst left back in Spurs history and I used to think Justin Edinburgh was quality!

I remember the random stories of KPB turning up at places like Hackney Marshes to just get some game time and fitness after he was injured.

The thing is - Götze has really only had 1 poor season (this last one, where he fought some injuries, got fat, and generally has been terrible - his confidence looks truly shattered). His first two years at Bayern he was basically at his Dortmund level and was excellent.

The criticism of him in Germany is largely from the fact he seemed to plateau - the expectation was that he would become one of the 5 or so best players in the world based on his early career, and instead he turned out to be just a very, very, very good one but not transcendent and not the German answer to Ronaldo or Messi. Unmet expectations frustrate fans, especially when the player doesn't always seem to be in the best shape (let's face it, Götze likes to carry a few extra kg from time to time). He also has never really had his favorite position to play at Bayern (#10 or even more like a 2nd striker, much like where vdV used to play for Spurs) with Müller and others taking up the same space.

He's an absurd natural talent, with close control, creativity and dribbling skills that are nearly unmatched. He's also never struggled before, so maybe this poor last year at Bayern and the ugly Euros experience has put a fire into him that he needs. If motivated, he's one of the best AM's in the world - a relentless attacking force who can pick through defenses find space for either himself or others.

If the deal can be done fairly cheaply (and it seems Bayern just want to sell him, period) and Poch can get his confidence back and his work ethic in place - he could be an absolute star, the kind of player that wins you the league. I think it's worth the risk.

FWIW - just in terms of raw talent, Götze is in a separate league from all the other young German attackers. Not even Reus is in his class (and I LOVE Reus, who is a phenomenal player) and comparing Schürrle or Draxler to him is laughable.

Id much prefer reus. Love watching him play.

Reus is a fantastic player. At his best he's a step below Götze's best though imo, and he's struggled with injuries as well (only played 46 Bundesliga matches the past 2 years). He's also 4 years older than Götze (he's already 27, Götze is still just 23).

On the other side, he doesn't have the pressure on his shoulders that Götze has of being one of the 3 or 4 most famous people in his own country and the overwhelming face of a major brand (Götze effectively IS Nike in Germany) and he'd fit our system cleaner (he's a true wide forward who would fit perfectly in).

Reus is also not available - for somewhat odd circumstances, Götze actually is.

Update on Götze: Ancelotti wants him out asap and it's very likely that the player will announce his new club himself. If not, he'd have to return to Bayern training in August, which basically won't happen.

The point is, who will pay that ~60m package for him (25m fee, 7-9m yearly over 5 years). It is alot for a player who could still turn into a world class player, but hasn't played well over the last two years. All this and he'd have to accept a wage cut.

Well according to Darren Lewis and Paul OKeefe, we were never in for him.

He won't go for anywhere near that. I think he'll go for under 20m. Wages at Bayern are reportedly 140k Euros per week. Even with the collapse in the pound that's 119.5k per week * 52 weeks = ~6.2m per year without any cut in pay whatsoever.

We can afford that. There's room for Levy to maneuver on this one.
