Best I can find says that Gotze is on 140k Euros per week at Bayern. Even with the collapse of the pound that's about 119k per week.

Wouldn't be a massive cut. It's in a range that's workable, potentially.

Of course Wijnaldum would look patchy. He was playing for Newcastle ffs.

What player in a relegated team has ever looked consistent? The guy scores, assists, has experience in the league and can play a number of positions. If Pochettino wants him, I'll back his decision.

I'd take Wijnaldum in a heartbeat. Very good player and would provide better competition to the three behind Kane than Chadli, Son or N'Jie managed.

Can also cover for Dembele in a deeper role if we want a strong dribbler in that position.

The question is who would you have him start every game over?
Keep thinking this. He does not walk into our team. He is a great talent who has dropped off the pace considerably. People seem to think "ooh Gotze- great signing #cumface" without actually thinking that we have players who are in much better form, are of a similar (or younger) age, & who are equally deserving of the kind of wages he will command. Not saying Poch couldn't whip him back into shape, but 25-30 million plus over 100k a week? I don't see Levy going for that,

I'd rather be a club with a bit of a selection/wages issue than a club that's an injury away from starting players incapable of getting in a top of the table teamsheet, honestly. Competition in the squad means that we have more quality in the squad, surely no one can think that's a problem in a season with 50ish fixtures on the cards if we're going to compete for honours on 4 fronts. And save me the lines about not upsetting Eriksen, Alli, or Lamela...they can earn their place or go have a cry in the corner. If Poch wants to play someone over them, then its up to them to fight their way back.

Götze hasn't been on form, but equally he's shown previously that when he is he can be truly world class. If Poch thinks he can get him back there, and Levy is happy to do the business, I'll be incredibly excited about him coming. Likewise, I'm not going to have a moan if it's all a smokescreen to drive down the price on Wijnaldum. But for better or worse, the news is probably worth 50 pages of celebration or argument in this thread.

Spending a large sum on one player is not something we should shirk from- new stadium or not. But I can't say I'm overwhelmed at the prospect of Gotze or Wijnaldum. Gotze reminds me of Party Boy from Jackass & has not fulfilled his potential. Wijnaldum is not worth anything like the £25 million that is being reported. I trust Poch & co to get it right, & if we sign either they would get fully supported by the fans, but it's all a bit meh for the money that is being talked about.

I think Gotze has scored something like 34 goals in three seasons, one season he spent time out injured. In that time he has a shitload of assists. Poch can get the best out of him just like he has done with Lamela, Dembele, Dier, Rose and Walker. Hell even Kane.

Gotze in my opinion would be worth every penny and is a player above the level that we already have at the Club.

I would be surprised if Götze came to Spurs, but I would be thrilled if Levy and Co. made it happen. He brings depth and Champions League experience, and there's no reason why he shouldn't be in the mix for a starting role.

Our signings are always on a pretty similar career trajectory - players join us on compromised wages as the career path to clubs like Real Madrid, Man Utd etc is clear and well trodden.

Gotze won't take a wage drop to join us (if he has to then it means no one else wants him - then you have to question why) and we won't break our wage structure to sign him.

But he won't be signed by any club and earn what he was on at BM.

Because they're just climbing off the Pep Guardiola ride.

He's not exactly a manager who gets the most out of players, imo. I don't know for a fact, but I'm not aware of many players he's actually improved.

(WARNING - CONTENTIOUS STATEMENT INCOMING)

Sort of like a poor man's Mourinho

Pep Confidential is an excellent read if you want to see how he creates a team, whether inheriting a very successful one like he did at BM or creating one as he did at Barca.

He and Klopp have opposite theories on who a team defends and transitions into attack and i think that Pep overestimated his coaching skills and the ability of Gotze to adapt to where Pep wanted him to play early in Pep's reign.

His confidence may be a little shot, but if there is any truth in the links that we have met with his agents already then i would trust Mitchell and Poch in their ability to bring out the best in this kid.

we signed Kevin Prince Boateng.......I don't think we should start being picky now

Had so many high hopes for the 'Ghetto Kid', seemed to do pretty well after leaving us as per usual but seems to have disappeared again. Is he still at Schalke?

When the footballing great Nick Barmby left us for Middlesbrough?

Genuinely gutted when Barmby left us for an emotion return to the North East. When we had Sheringham, Barmby and Anderton in their 'prime' it was still a time we were half decent in the 90s, clearly looking at it through teenage rose tinted spectacles.

I think Comolli must have been on the take from Hertha Berlin......we signed Boateng and Gilberto off them inside 6 months, actually paid a fee for Gilberto when he was available for free 6 months later.

Wikipedia tells me the Prince was at Milan again, but: On 25 May 2016, club owner Silvio Berlusconi announced his departure, along with those of Alex, Phillippe Mexes and Mario Balotelli.
