Hang on...so the real pitch is the sliding pitch?
I would have thought that the artificial surface would have been the sliding one. I what's the reason for that? Is it easier to keep the grass alive/healthy?

the composition of that pic makes it almost seem like a model..i half expect to see a hornby train run past it

It's called tilt shift photography. The top and bottom of the pic (or the foreground and the background) are out of focus with just a narrow field (the subject of the photo) in focus. The technique works best when you can take the photo from above the subject. It was originally achieved by literally tilting the lens on the body of the camera, but it's more usually achieved digitally in software nowadays.

Cool effect.

The pitch for NFL games need to be set lower as well, so it's preferred to have the football pitch on top and then have the NFL pitch at the deeper level (seating for NFL cannot go all the way down to the pitch since you have 75+ people standing and thus blocking the view of the lowest seats).

2 main reasons are its easier to have a moving pitch on a hard surface, as opposed to grass. Also for NFL games there is a major restricted view for the first 5-10 rows (in a normal stadium) because of the players stood pitch side, this will be negated with the drop in elevation to the artificial pitch.

This is what they have to at wembley for NFL games, note the tarp covering the first 10 or so rows, which reduces capacity

Like Cup Final day on SSC today...lot of work going on in and around what's left of the North stand. Cranes are in position, RSJs being welded to the truss...very exciting stuff, fully expect a video on pornhub by nights end...
