Whatever the fee, it looks like a done deal and Levy has done his bit to get as much as possible again.

Think we can assume that the club knew this was coming for a good few months. The players would have known and no-one else seems to be agitating for a move. Poch, Levy and the staff would have known and so would have been planning for it.

If it ok with all them, then it fine with me. Hopefully it works out for the best but half the fun is the not knowing! :)

I think £55m for a 27 year old RB who wanted out is decent money.

What are they going to get back when they sell him at the end of his contract? £10M? I much prefer that to selling a young player like Bale where you know the buying club will get their money back so the buyer loses nothing at all. We are selling at Walker's peak but have enjoyed some of his best years ourselves, and we make our rival pay through the nose for him, knowing they won't be able to recoup that fee later. So I agree with you, it's decent money for us, we're the winners in this deal, it's a good sale by Levy.

It's not that he wants out that bothers me, it's that it's to the Oil Sheikh's. Just don't like that we're selling him to City.

Should just let them keep buying Woolwich's washed up hacks. Debuchy is out the door too :(

All our top players don't want to play for us long term when the better offer comes and we cave in as money is more important than winning .
silverware .
Strategy of defeat. They win things we win fuck all .Rinse and repeat same old .

fully agree. with a major tournament coming up next year, if he is forced to stay then he will definitely play well to get into the England team. We should not be selling our top players. Otherwise why not also sell dier as we have cover in DM and could buy a cheap defender to cover what that position as well. What if city Chelsea or utd or a bigger team come in for Alli. Should we sell? I thought we had changed the selling mentality. Improve his contract and that of our other top players otherwise they will leave. selling walker will just pave the way for more of this. He is the best right back in the country and he must not be sold!

that's why we need the new stadium -to generate revenue so we can compete with the absurd amount of money thrown around at the top end of the premier league. Id much rather Walker was sold to Brighton but they are not going to pay the kind of wages he is after. No point keeping Walker he is unhappy and does not want to play for the club so his future performances in a Spurs shirt would not reach previous levels so better to cash in with an obscene amount of money.

Not that worried about selling to a rival as long as they are paying well over the odds...besides the only thing he really has is pace and he'll only have that for another season or two. Especially if City's training is nowhere near where it is at Spurs.

What if the manager wanted to sell him? Some of you aren't even considering that.

Gutted we have sold him. Regardless of the price we should not be strengthening our direct rivals if we are serious about being a big club. We sold a quality defender to a team below us with a class attack and a shit defence. A very stupid move. I'm gutted.

In theory you're right, but we are not as big a club as Citeh at the moment. So we have to be pragmatic. It's what we've done over the last 15 years trying to close the gap on the biggest teams and it has worked. The difference now to a few years back is that the player leaving our team for a world record at his position, is not our best player. Not even our second best player. Hell, he's probably not even in our top five or six best players. And we have a very capable backup for him already who has proven he can do the job. We have to balance not strengthening a rival and weakening ourselves with trying to become a bigger club. that's done by making profit and reinvesting. We're making a huge profit on Walker. And above all else there is the human aspect of things - Kyle presumably wants to go, and when a player wants to go what use is it trying to stand in the way? Especially when Poch's best work is done by achieving a good team togetherness.

Hope he turns back into the garbage he once was for us. I imagine if anyone can turn him back into nothing but a speed merchant, it's Pep!

He fit's Pep's style - Pep doesn't do defenders, and Walker is no defender. Add to that an "unreliable" first touch and no consistent crossing, andyou have to ask what do we lose? If it's wing pace, you can push that higher up until KWP gets enough experience to make the slot his own.

Also, can anyone name a defender Poch has sold since coming to the PL that got better when they left him?

He's been a loyal servant, but as everyone points out, his head was clearly turned before Easter, and £50ish mil for a player we already have cover for is not to be sniffed at
