I think 'when fit' was the operative word last season. I read somewhere our 'first eleven' played together twice all season (not sure if that's true without checking though). It does question the 'actual' quality of the squad if for a good 90% of all games last season, we fielded 'second string' players and still managed to finish second.
To me, we don't have enough players for next season, on paper anyway. Having three recognised centre halves in Toby, Eric and Jan (should Wimmer leave) wouldn't exactly be an ideal position to be in. Having one right back is probably worse. In fact, you could argue just the Keeper and in Central Midfield are pretty solid in the squad.
Attacking third is OK but, could be better. Defence needs attention.

The point is that Spurs have always bought young talent and tried to develop them into stars. We don't build our team through buying peak year superstars. And never have built a team successfully when trying to do so.
Define a big signing?? £30/40/50m or more.
We have reportedly sold £70m of players and I expect based on recent seasons that we have budgeted to spend what we get in sales. We do not need 7 players costing £10m each. We do need a 3rd GK and have been linked with young CB's that presumably are not ready for the first team. Say that leaves us with £50m. Now depending on what is available that £50m could be spent on one player or 2/3. If Sissoko or Wimmer go then we need to replace them but would have more funds. So whilst spending the whole £50m on one player seems unlikely it COULD still be within budget and COULD be better than 2/3 cheaper players who may not be ready. We have sold a regular First team player and have money to replace. It is pretty clear we are not in the market to compete for the big transfers and that will be the case for a few years.
