West Ham - League cup game

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It's the point that winning a cup competition with this group of players is needed. REGARDLESS of the cup. I think you underestimate the power of winning a trophy and what it can do to a talented group of players. No one in our team has won a trophy with us. 3/4s of the team haven't even won a trophy.

It's a catalyst for future success. The hunger to walk up them Wembley stairs more and more after feeling it for the first time. Will the League Cup keep our players? No. Will winning the league keep our players? No. But it will push us on to a different level, any trophy would.

Like people have said, it's not so much that we lost. It was the manner. Lethargic in our play in that second half, outfought by fucking West Ham. 2-0 up. Embarrassing.

Ferguson made sure United took the competition seriously as did Mourinho last season.

You have to win so that you hate losing.

Some fans on here do not and cannot see necessary developmental links.

This was a shocking loss and I pray it does not have lasting damage.

I scrolled back to see how people saw that second half. Its funny if you start at Page 30, the number of people wanting him to be brought on.
Fuck knows why, I've never seen anything at all in him that makes me think "Ooooh, great, N'Koudou coming on!". Him and that other N'K have been two of the worst bits of scouting in recent years
that ball reception was the flaming point for me. you cant be a pro paid thousands for week and not be able to a simple thing as that. We dont have room for players like that

I get the idea of treating the bigger competitions as far more important. But we haven't won a trophy in a decade and the only trophies we've won in nearly 30 years are the League Cup - twice. I am tired of hearing "it's only the League Cup" like it doesn't matter. It is silverware and in the second half we played with an unacceptable complacency given the players that were on the field. We have not won enough trophies that we can play with that sort of arrogance. Especially as this squad have won no trophies for us as yet. It frustrates me when I hear fans talking about winning the title and then I see this from the players. This is not a game where West Ham played out of their skin and thoroughly deserved it. They won it because we strolled around in second gear after half time and thought that was all it took to win the game. For that reason I am very unhappy with the players tonight, very disappointed by the result and don't agree that it doesn't matter. This is a game we don't have an excuse for losing.

100% agree. "Only the League Cup" my fucking arse, tell that to these three...

I lnow. 3 more wins and we would be holding a cup.

But no, lets finish 3rd and see what that does.

I am so fcuking livid it is untrue.

I dared stupidly to think those flaky days were gone.

Back with a vengeance and we now have to prove ourselves again.

People just don't get it.

Psyfcukingchology.
Our first XI walloped Liverpool 4-1 and drew with Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the last 8 days.

There's your Psyfuckingchology.

You choose to put more weight into our rotated side losing in our least prioritised competition, fine. But understand you're talking emotional garbage.

Tottenham 4 - 1 Liverpool
Real Madrid 1 - 1 Tottenham

Last 8 days mate. Think about it.

Didn't really do any of the above in 99 or 08. It won't convince any players to stay, or convince them that they can go on and win important things if we win the LC and fuck up the league and CL again.

I respect that there was a time the LC wasn't *so* shit (let's be honest, it was created as a second rate competition from the very start), but it's now well and truly pointless. Pays nothing and no one in the footballing world cares. An extended version of the charity shield.

Means nothing to me. Today mattered and we lost. All manner of runs over. Pathetic.

.when ever we play a weaker first 11 we fuck up , no surprises there.
Win at Man Utd this we be remembered as a irrelevance . More annoying is that we have provided them with self belief , momentum for their relegation dog fight .

We might just have won the league tonight. City are gonna face a horrible fixture list in December and January, that 2 legged semi is a bugger. It's gonna cost them points. And if they make the final, it could be a chance for us to extend a potential lead, while they'll have a rescheduled game to fit in somewhere. Now is the right time to exit this competition. It becomes a nuisance past this point.

The League cup only matters if we don’t win it. If we win it, then it’s a second rate competition. It’s a lose-lose for a team in our position in the modern era in terms of building a sustainable, winning club that challenges for the league and in Europe.

Yes, be upset about the poor effort but don’t kid yourself into thinking anyone would have cared if we won it. “Spurs have found their level” and all that.

And yes, I’d still like to have won the damn thing.

West Ham are not our "bitter rivals". They are a tin pot club with delusions of grandeur who think they matter more than they do. Their inevitable boasting after this game like they have just won the Champion's League will attest to that.

For me this is more about the manner of the performance than who it was against and it would have been unacceptable against any of the sides in the competition in my opinion.
they threw their shirts to their crowd after the game. says it all.
