West Ham - League cup game

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Doesn't mean that change is necessarily good.

If we won the league and FA Cup this year would we boast that we'd won the league or the double?

We haven't won a competition as big as the league in more than half a century. We've never won the CL or European Cup as it used to be. Can we really afford to say "cups don't matter anymore"? If Poch and key players left and we were in a position to only realistically win a domestic cup would they still not matter to us? Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, Shitty and the scum, earned or bought, have the major trophies in their recent history. We don't. So do we really have the standing to say they don't matter?

I dunno, it just seems to me to be a bit arrogant if we act like they don't matter. It's one of the few things I don't like hearing from Poch, which he pretty much said earlier this week. I feel it is a doubled edged sword because while I accept it tries to instil belief in the players for the big games, it also seems to instil some arrogance in them when it comes to lesser games and opposition.

No, it’s not necessarily good, but football has changed. Poch wasn’t hired to win the kangaroo cup. He was hired to raise our profile in the wider footballing world with high league finishes and exposure in the CL. The fact that we’ve remained super competitive whilst building a billion pound stadium and training facility is something I never thought possible.

That hurt. To lose a London derby whatever the competition is bad. Those that do not care should be ashamed. The only top 5 to go out. Yes better to lose this than a premiership match. First time since Poch in charge we have lost a 2 goal lead. Makes team and fans nervous when leading by only 2 goals.

Correct me if im wrong but WH have scored more against us in the Poch era than any other team.

Ultra-wank.

As we become a more successful team, complacency, arrogance and overconfidence will be a real problem (especially with such a young team). A short sharp shock like this will hopefully be a bit of a wakeup.

How the fuck are people having such a meltdown over this game. Were second in the league, joint top in a very tough champions league group and have utd and real madrid to come in our next 2 games. These are great times to be a fan, we have bigger fish to fry than the carabao cup. Let west ham make some t shirts about this game even though they will inevitably go out in the next round and probably lose on the weekend to palace because all their players are fucked from their midweek cup final.

Only bright side was Son in this game.

Son & Dele pissed me off big time in the 2nd half... They both slipped into that mode when they do nothing but casual flicks & backheels and turned over SO much possession. Both were a bit shot-shy by then too.

I just been stuck on a train platform in my colours with a tonne of rowdy WH fans (and a few Chavs for good measure) giving it large...

Fuck ya'll who aren't bothered by tonights failings!

But they don’t. Look at woolwich. 3 out 4 FA cups and everyone thinks they’re shit - even their own fans. I might not agree with it from the comfort of my living room, but professional football clubs have always gone where the money is - it’s the definition of ‘professional’ and the PL and the CL is where the money is. Obviously this didn’t apply before the TV money came in - clubs took the cups seriously because of the money brought in by the attendances of the extra games played, but that hasn’t been the case for years.

I didn’t mean to be patronising, but football - like it or not - has moved on. Top clubs will always prioritise where the money is. It has never been different.
Woolwich fans are entitled and arrogant. They act like the have a God given right to win the top trophies. Is that who we want to be? Not me mate. Every competitive game should matter.

We have a squad with sufficient depth that we can properly compete in all competitions. We fielded a weaker side as it is in this game. That's what depth is for. I don't see why we can't compete with our best players in the main competitions but still field weakened sides that are good enough to win games like this and have a crack at another trophy. We could have and should have won today with this side and without it hindering our PL or CL campaigns. Our weaker side is still better than West Ham's garbage outfit. I don't like the idea that we can't properly raise our profile or become a serious footballing force unless we pretty much give up on the cups. That the cups need to be sacrificed. I can't say I agree with that. I think we should aspire to do both, not least because statistically speaking the better you are in the PL and CL the more likely you are to win the domestic cups, as the list if domestic cup winners over the past 25 or so years has shown. When clubs like Chelsea and Man U have won the League Cup or FA Cups at various times they did it mostly with weaker sides, but they also were able to win major honours at the same time. I'd like us to aspire to be like that.

He ain't Woolwich mate he's Spurs
He's just proper fucked off with tonight's capitulation. Like me.
When Spurs perform like they did tonight some of us need to let off some steam.
Surely, tonight of all nights, melting is fully justified
And when there's a melt to be had, here you are, front and centre once again to bathe in that misery.

Hiding after your dooming and glooming preseason after a fantastic start to the season showed you up. The minute we lose, BANG, John's back!

You're the human opposite of the phrase 'you only sing when you're winning'.

But why don’t we see you when we win? And by the way I thought ‘mouthy piece of cunt’ was a delicious insult. I’m surprised you deleted it. You’re a special bloke John, but expect no support from me in future.
