Ex-Spurs Player Gareth Bale

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Probably complete bullshit but I've read he'd be willing to take a pay cut, I just don't see why people are so outraged that people would want him back, it's all hypotheticals at this point anyway

It's ot outrage against the nostalgic desire some have to see him return... Wouldn't call it outrage at all personally... Just a handful of people exasperated at having to point out the same things to the same suspects over and again...

"I don't care about the money" but i'm here for a "constructive discussion".

Should he?

If he wants to be appreciated, be a main part of the team and enjoy his football then yes.

Will he?

Take a rough 50% paycut, maybe not win a trophy for a season or 2 then maybe he won’t.

It all depends how much he wants to enjoy his football. Any team he goes to he’ll start but he will never be loved as much as he was at Spurs.

Not sure there's anything to disagee with there Tottenham Massive Tottenham Massive . I know my OWN mind but if you think you know it better then fill ya boots.

It's about £250,000 a week, but AFTER tax. If he got £100,000 a week from us it would be £50,000 a week after tax here. That's an 80% cut.

If anyone thinks a player looking for a final big payday is going to take a hit like that they must be living in cloud fucking cuckoo land
That’s fair enough, but hasn’t he already had a number of big pay days? Maybe he’s happy with his financial situation and thinks he can get by on a measly £120k per week. Maybe he’d be keen to help the club that made him win their first title for decades in their first season in Europe’s finest new stadium?

Ex pros are always talking about the fact you look back at your medals and achievements, not your payslips.

Indeed... Certainly not a player who has all but blanked us since his exit.

Maybe... Maybe not.

Why not? ....Cos since he left he's barely uttered a breath about us with any sense of nostalgia.

Depends if your career set you up for life i'd have thought... I bet it's only those that retired with money AND medals that have the luxury to think the way you suggest... Even less so his and Deli's generations in the cess pit that is modern footy.

Sexy beast.... :baletroll:

He's a player that used to play for us.
We are a very, very wealthy football club.
We play in the Champions league.
He may become available.
Why should signing him put us on the verge of financial meltdown like Portsmouth and fucking Leeds?

No no no. You just ain't getting it are you.
Too quick to slap down those you disagree without a moments thought, as always.
Yes, we need to pay our best players the fair and requisite amount in order to keep the squad together. Of course we do. Only a naive fool or an idiot would think otherwise. But to get to and maintain the financial streams and elite club status necessary, we need to elevate the club with stellar names and world class players. Players like Gareth Bale.

I'm not arguing that the single transfer of Bale will put us into financial meltdown. I'm arguing against your assertion that we can and should "elevate the club with stellar names and world class players" by buying them ready made. We are a wealthy club amongst the broader population of football clubs but we are not trying to be peers with Stoke City, Levante, Marseille, and Lazio. We are competing for the players that Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Barcelona want at the highest end of the market. We are the lowest bidder by a distance there so we have play the market differently from them.

My point regarding Bale specifically is this: IF we had 60M and the wage space to add Bale, I trust our coaching and scouting staff to find ways to spend that money on other players in a way that improves our squad and secures its future to a greater extent than a player that has made 47 league appearance since the 15/16 season. Eriksen has made 83 and Lamela has made 43 in that same time period for way of comparison. Bale has made almost as few appearances as Lamela, a player whose career we feared was near it's end and still has yet to take the field in a competitive fixture this season.

Good point with the comparison to Lamela. I knew Bale's injury record was poor at Madrid, given it seems like every time I watch them he's put, but even I didn't realise it was that poor.

He hasn’t shown anything since he left to show that he has any love for the club. Really not fussed. Would rather spend the money on new young talent and Eriksen’s wages...

Regardless of whether he has shown much love to the club or not, signing what would be a marquee player and probably the only feasable readymade world class player we could sign is a no brainer for me. We already know what he can offer the team and that on his day he is still one of the best players in the world.

I am not in love with bale either, I was fucked off with him when he left. There is certainly no love from me towards him now. I even begrudged him winning trophies with real Madrid, however, if it was possible to sign him, we should be looking at doing so.

It's all about risk

He's amazing when fit vs very injury prone + will need high wages and transfer fee

It's only worth the risk (of him living the crock life here) if we can get him on fairly reasonable wages for a reasonable fee. In today's market £50-60m and £150-175k p/w would be a good punt imo.

I wonder what his €/minute cost is? A lot of folk have blasted Lamela for his poor injury record & he cost a fraction of what Bale would cost, plus is on about 1/4 of his wages. The meltdown on here when Bale was as useful as a tampon (in one week out 3) would be cataclysmic.
