Ex-Spurs Player Gareth Bale

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I wonder what his €/minute cost is? A lot of folk have blasted Lamela for his poor injury record & he cost a fraction of what Bale would cost, plus is on about 1/4 of his wages. The meltdown on here when Bale was as useful as a tampon (in one week out 3) would be cataclysmic.
Before his pay rise at Madrid £300k p/w for 8739 minutes: £5,356 p/min

Since his pay rise to £350k p/w for 2497 minutes: £14,578 p/min

And that's just what he's putting in his pocket. Madrid are actually paying roughly double that, Bill Madrid Bill Madrid ?

Per minute he's surely the world's most expensive player this side of Wheelchair.

And that is why we shouldn’t want him back. If he took a drop to half his salary we would still be staring at a £7000 a minute sicknote every few weeks.

Lamela, meanwhile has cost us £65k p/w for 4.5 years and 7200 minutes: £2113 p/min.

So, we can afford 3 1/2 Lamelas for the price of a cut-rate-just-to-do-us-a-favour Bale.

I need more time to prepare figures for players who are healthy...some cunt keeps handing them new deals all the time.

Those were the figures The Guardian and The Sun ran with after he renewed a year ago aren't they? The Mail's were similar but slightly less, something like £320k p/w.

In Spain that got a lot of coverage but was dismissed as being way, way too much, far more than top-paid Ron gets, who's currently on something like €18 million, about £310,000 a week at the current exchange rate (he's set to renew at €24 million a year which will be the highest in Spain). I can only guess that the British press have dug up a shed load of bonuses or publicity deals and added the lot together which the media here don't do when stating what a player earns. The general feeling was that his team wanted €20 million, Madrid wanted to set it at €10 million (what Ramos earns) but settled at €15 million. So the theory goes.

So that's the figures I've used, his estimated annual pay from Real Madrid not including bonuses, image rights and all that crap. I don't know how accurate they are but suspect they're closer to the truth than The Graun's claim.

As I keep saying, all these figures are AFTER tax. That means it's not even "3 1/2 Lamelas", it's more like 7 Lamelas, 6 Kanes and so on. Anyone thinking he'd settle for £60 grand a week after tax is living in post-Scouse nuke-the-fridge levels of total delusion

If the price is right and Pochettino wants him - then go for it.

Pochettino mentioned in his book about a player who was injured all the time at his club and when he left his injury problems cleared up. Sometimes that happens in football. There are no guarantees if he signs for us he'll be as injury prone as he is now at Madrid. Different training methods etc.

Game changer. World class.

No, we aren't going to get that guy again - but we get an experienced WINNER in our squad. One who we know. One we know CAN perform in this league and above us a Spurs legend.

I will never forget how he forced the move to Madrid by simply refusing to play for us.

He can stay in Madrid with his <removed> adoring pall Luka.

Whatever happens with Bale, it won't be in January. Madrid need everyone. Struggling in the League and have the hardest CL draw. By Feb their season could be over. That, and he's still injured.

A massively overhyped event. Wasn't upset about it then, less so now that we've been proved to have mugged Madrid. We were ALWAYS going to sell Bale with a world record fee on offer - his not playing was more to do with not wanting him to do a hamstring and blow up the deal than his trying to force a move. Where would be if he had played and wrecked his legs, Madrid went away and we were stuck with his fragility? Much happier the way things turned out.

Not bitter towards him, and glad Madrid are saddled with his wages and medical bills. Will be happy to see him finish out his career there.
