No it's not, never has been. Either the team is good or its not. If it's not it might be down to shit players or a shit manger or both. Couldn't give a fuck if we spunk £100m or £5m on a player but I acknowledge and approve on how we are sustainably run (within our own means from the revenue that we generate).
So you think there's no correlation between a team being good and net spend?

No, with the exception of Chelsea in the early Russian days (certainly not now), PSG and City no. Woolwich, Man U, Spurs, Dortmund, Athletic Madrid (I think Barca and Madrid fit into this but their are strange anomalies at play with these two) all these clubs by and large balance their books, if not in one year in isolation but over a few combined they do.

In the early days of ENIC we were one of the highest spenders in the league but were dog shit. What about Everton in the summer, add to that list of positive net spend another 20 clubs, many long since relegated and there is only one answer, NO.

But we've been here before, don't you get bored bringing it up? By bringing it up do you think we magically turn into City, or do you want us to turn into Everton?

Natty Roots Natty Roots slinging around the disagrees like smarties but he lurks from the shadows, probably too shit scared to put his opinion out there and actually say why and what he disagrees on, who knows?? but ultimately what's the point.

correlation is rather a weak requirement, it's a question of causality. In which case it's a sufficient cause for success but not a necessary as the history of football is plagues with big spenders falling and small clubs succeeding.
though it may be the easiest way to be good when it all falls into place I still think that if you take west brom and give them 300m to spend over the summer they won't breach top 4 the season after.

Haha, we all know who Natty is. Our faux-rastafari. He used to actually be quite funny. Unsure why he deviated from his purpose. Very unrastafarian.

Soz mate, I'm calling it like I see it. I want a hard-nosed footballing bastard who will spend every minute of the week searching for talent, rather than letting Mauricio try to do it when he has some free time on a Sunday evening before MotD.
Surely that's the role of Head of Recruitment. Director of Football suggests someone ho'd interfere with 1st team proceedings?

Always wondered why we don't look at the Portuguese/Dutch sides and their scouting, they seem to find talent year on year that gets scalped.

I agree in principle.

But the Poch / Levy relationship is like delicately balanced symbiosis, the introduction of a third species could end up destroying it.

We have played that experment out a few times before with mixed results. The appointment would be just as much about personality and the acceptance of being back seat driven by Levy as it would be about ability or experience

We might, but they can promise playing time, easy transfers to any big club, and have much laxer work permit requirements.

And that should be a head of recruiting's job, but we don't really have one of those, and I want someone with enough authority to a) Tell Mauricio that he doesn't care what Pochettino thinks of Nkoudou's dribbling, he's still a garbage idea and b) be able to ensure a transition in playing style as players age or things happen so that Mauricio can focus on coaching and tactics, which are his clear forte.
