Ex-Spurs Player Toby Alderweireld

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I can only assume he isn't 100% and there's no point taking him to sit on the bench and not play.

He's been out for 3 months and has played one game. Against a league two team.

Telegraph running 'exclusive' saying he's not on the plane.

Nothing to worry about. I think the Newport game was pretty much a training match incorporated into the last stages of his recovery. High intensity games against Woolwich and Juve aren’t exactly the perfect way to ease back into top flight football.

It’s the same reason I’m not expecting Lucas Moura to feature in Turin. He’ll probably be on the bench, but I don’t see Pochettino using him unless he feels he absolutely has to.

I’d expect Alderweireld to be on the bench v Palace, and for Lucas Moura to make his debut in the same game.

This news, coupled with Poch’s spiky interview, suggests that it may be more than an injury. Just a gut feeling, but I’d be lying if I didn’t think there was a little friction.
I hope not, but at the end of the day, there is no player bigger than the club or the manager. Come on Toby, sign the contract and return to that defence you marshal so well. Don’t piss off the gaffer.

He’s not signed a contract and just had a serious enough injury to keep him out for a few months. He won’t be fully match fit anyway.

So let’s put 2 and 2 together and see what we get.

8 months ago I didn’t know Davinson Sanchez. But I also knew Walker offered more pace than Trippier. I’m ok with how that money was spent.

So what will be will be.

All players leave one day. As long as we don’t let him go for nothing I’m not too bothered. The badge on the front means the most to me.

The cash in his hand means most to him.

That’s football.

I wasn't reading anything into his absence
Seeing that .... I am now

Hope I'm over reacting but that was weird
Saw this post-match press conference yesterday. Thought it was a bit weird and that Poch seemed remarkably un-cool compared to his usual self.

In fact, if you didn't know the result then his entire demeanour would make you think that we'd lost or drawn.
I am getting a little bit of the (last season) Kyle Walkeritis syndrome here, but we've all gotten nervous before about a key player only for them to turn around and sign a new contract immediately after (see: Eriksen last year).

Fuck knows, maybe Wenger decided to spit in his post-match glass of Argentinian red wine.

If he's not going to the Juventus match then I'm particularly concerned. Poch's usual policy has been to train players with the squad as much as possible, has it not? Toby looked absolutely fine against Newport (though only to us as outsiders, I suppose).

Yeah, I saw that yesterday. Unusually spiky from Poch.

When I saw that yesterday I was laughing.

He was obviously still caught up in the emotion of the occasion. Enjoying the moment of taking the 3 points and re-inforcing who the best team in North London is.

And then this twat — why ask about a player who wasn’t even there??

“Fuck off you shit stirring journalist prick and no one dare ask me 1 more question about Toby” was basically how I interpreted his reaction.

I think, as others have said, it was more about respecting Sanchez and (to a lesser extent) Foyth.

The team is playing well, there’s no obvious reason to change the system to a back three again just yet, and Alderweireld probably isn’t 100% fit.
