Ex-Spurs Player Toby Alderweireld

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

As good as he has been for us, if he wants out, and his demands cant be met, then off he goes. Have been a huge fan, but the Club cant be held hostage by any one player, as well as the disruption to the other players. Good luck to him if he leaves, but the money he is seeking wont be easy to find in the PL...

CBs generally look better in a Poch team than, say, a Klopp or Wenger team, because he puts a lot of emphasis on the protection in front of the CBs. Lovren is an example of this, so is Wimmer, who mostly looked solid in his time here but can't even get in the match day squad at Stoke.

I don't think we'd sell him to them but it'd be interesting to see how he'd do at Liverpool with garbage in front of him offering no protection.

Just find it disappointing about him, seemed a better character than this.

If he actually asked for more than Kane, then maybe he should go.
Not in same class as Kane, not as vital to us, and holding us to ransom, knowing our financial situation seems kind of shitty.

Sick of greedy footballers. These are not normal people struggling and looking to better themselves... They are double lotto winners who still are not satisfied.

Hope he goes abroad, strengthening another prem team leaves a bitter taste.
To be fair to Alderweireld on this one, rumour has it that Kane is due for another contract at the end of the season to boost his wage, and I wouldn't be surprised if that ended up being higher than £150,000 per week. So in that sense, Toby's 'last big contract' with us is somewhat justified in asking for current top whack.

It's all such a clusterfuck of timing. Almost surprising that his camp would push so hard for these demands considering that we don't even know if he'll come back 100% from the hamstring injury (let alone being the type of injury that sets your alarm bells off that it might happen again in the future).
In some ways, I'd have thought it'd be fairer to get back into the first team and full fitness and then offer a contract once we know what we're paying for.

Will be a fucking insult if we lose him to another English team. I can't stand the idea of watching Walker lift a trophy with Man City (probably one on Sunday already... though the alternative is far worse I suppose), and Alderweireld doing the same would just grate further.

A bit of me wonders if we'd have been able to win the FA Cup last season without the Walker situation coming to a head when it did. If the same happens here and Alderweireld is frozen out of the highest-profile matches, it could really fuck us.

As good as Toby has been for us, he's completely replaceable. In fact, we already have his replacement in Sanchez, who I suspect will be better than him. Jan has been our outstanding CB this season and has formed a real good partnership with Sanchez. With Foyth backing them up. I'd also be very interested in bringing in someone like Kurt Zouma. Still only 23 and has been solid for Stoke, not sure if his contract is up this season with Chelsea though. Or De Ligt at Ajax.

If Toby is pulling a tantrum, he can go. Unlike Eriksen, Kane, Son or Dembele he isn't integral to us winning games of football. Just like Rose. If one of those 4 wanted to leave (maybe not Son) we'd be in big trouble as they are so key to how we play and we have no-one like them. Sanchez-Vertonghen have proven they are well up to the quality of Alderweireld-Vertonghen.

Real are a shambles at the back, he can go there and get his big bucks whilst rotating with Ramos and Varane and be slagged to death by their fans.

If we cannot pay Toby 150kpw we might just as well liquidate the club and turn NWHL into the pig farm.

What's the fucking point?

That seems a likely scenario for Kane, but as you say why the fuck is this all coming to a head now, in the middle of the season approaching the most important time when you want everyone united and pulling the same direction. Also yes, why is this an issue when he hasn't proven his fitness yet?

Something absolutely stinks for this to be going on now.

Out of curiosity, what's your gender?

You seem to have a lot feminine traits in your style of posting.

You have a lot of non human traits in your posting. My theory is that you're actually a piece of mould that's been growing on someone's bedroom window for the last twenty years and you've acquired a small degree of sentience and an even smaller degree of intelligence and have grown something resembling fingers to post crap on the internet with.

Why are you so this wound up?

It's not my fault that Lamela is a great player and undisputed starter in the team.

Nothing I've read suggests that Toby wants to leave, it's just that we don't want to pay him what he wants and it would be a shame if the two parties cannot come into a mutual agreement until the transfer window.

Also, I think Toby is just as much as important to us as Kane, Eriksen and the like. Last season saw us go on a bad run in both the league and the CL with him out, but our team has improved so much that we can cope without having him in the lineup (with the arrival of Sanchez being a big help). On form, Toby is our best defender and it would irritate me to no end to see him play against us in the league with alongside another english team. Sell him abroad to the likes of Madrid and include a swap deal for one of their players like Kovacic or Isco. I've become such a massive fan of the Belgian that I don't think I could take it if he was playing for a Liverpool or Utd.
:walkercry:

Not just me that harbours concerns of this nature then?

I always find it intriguing how posters construct these intricate and detailed posts filled with fevered imaginings that coalesce into scenarios of fantastic situations.
I prefer to sit and wait until an official announcement is made in the press about a players future, rather than daydream myself into a lather of anger or despair.
Qué Sera Sera.
I hope he stays, if he doesn't, we have Foyth and Sanchez, so the future's bright. Maybe in the long run it might be better than keeping an ageing centre back whose better days are behind him?
