According to Metro, PSG are interested in Aderweireld. If so, and if he's definitely going to leave, this seems to make sense for us.

We haven't played a back 3 for a while, so Sanchez and Vertonghen will do for now but Vertonghen will also need replacing within the next couple of seasons.

For Pochettino to be able to work closely with his young compatriot in the next two weeks will help lay the groundwork to eventually ease Foyth into Premier League action.
He's definitely seen as the future. Wouldn't even surprise me if he was bought specifically with an eye on being a replacement for Toby.
The more we learn about how delicately balanced the situation with Alderweireld appears to be, the more Pochettino's enthusiasm for Foyth makes sense. It's almost as if he knows more about what's going on there than us!
