Match Tottenham Hotspur v. Manchester United - F.A. Cup Semi-Final

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I don't even know. Maybe this is a wake up call to Levy/Poch that we may need a change of philosophy in the window.

Kane wasn't great. He seems to be taking unnecessary touches that allows the defenders to get back into the play. Son was wasteful in good opportunities. Dembele at fault for the first goal, although with the way the game was called, it should have been a foul. Really missing the pace at wingback to change the game. Other than that I don't really know who to blame. They had two strong moments at scored with both.

I’m fine with losing. I’m not fine with losing a behaving like a bunch of fucking mercenaries that don’t try at all and bleed for the badge. Not good enough. Not even trying while losing by only a goal and with a lot of time? I wanted to slap the living out of some players. Spoiled brats.

If you listened to Dele's post match interview on the official site, he appeared to be saying that going from one up to two-one down sucked all of the oxygen from the team, and knocked them back. He almost appeared to resigning himself to the defeat at that point of the game (something I've never heard him say). This could be season fatigue, his youthfulness or lack of experience.

A more rounded or experienced side can carry that but not a whole team. A young team looks towards it's leader, but we do not have one, and this i feel is the crux of the matter. Where is our (forgive me) John Terry, Tony Adams, Roy Keane?

We have no Graham Roberts.

A good Manager would have recognized that, motivated the team from the touchline or made substitutions. Poch did neither. If he feels we lack the mentality on the pitch or on the bench then he needs to find a couple of leaders and bring them to the club and fuck the cost.

This one hurts, but FFS...you’d think we’d just been relegated by some of the shite on here. This is still the best Spurs team for 30+ years. Cunts crawling out of the woodwork in every direction to have a pop at Poch - disgraceful. Woolwich-esque this notion that we get to win what we want to win or there go all the toys, it’s nauseating.

Poch in. Levy in. Melting cunts out. We lost a match...it happens.

Did you clench at all brother?

Well I'm extremely glum today, so this might be a bit harsher some of it, but whatever.

Pochettino is good for us, he has turned us around albeit there is still lots to do.
We regularly can beat the top 6 in the league, have ended many hoodoo's too.
2 years running in CL, finishing above woolwich. So many positives he has brought us.

However he is still learning himself and it shows when against more cunning managers, in bigger games.
The results in our group stages were awesome, but there was an element there of well we can't really do any worse than previous season CL, so nothing to lose here. But yet against Juve for whatever reason we fell short, just like yesterday again at Utd in a big game with more pressure and having something to lose.

Poch's bizarre comments regarding the FA cup are perhaps poorly worded but either way to me that is a bad message to be sowing in your players heads.
When the chips were down, I never felt like the players had it in them to turn it around, and we seemed to just accept defeat.
Ferguson would have flogged his players for showing that attitude and certainly wouldn't cone out with that kind of crap about the FA cup.

The worst thing about Poch, his biggest weakness I think is he is not ruthless enough.
He has certain players that will start games even with one leg, and then he further compounds this issue by steadfastly refusing to sub off these players even when having an absolute stinker.

Now the message he is saying to the players who are fit and trying their best in training is that you are worse than a one legged Kane, so sorry but he is our messiah and you can not start.

I fail to see how this is not going to rub people the wrong way, and is this not in contrast to Davies' comments about it being about the team.
Kane should know he isn't ready and should be saying gaffer I can only do 20 mins or so max right now.

We were just fine without him, and should have continued with him making subs appearances until he has a minimum level of fitness required to be competitive over 90 minutes.

I'm gutted, especially after how we played for 20 minutes. Was always a tricky prospect, knock out football against Mourinho is no joke.
Its just typical though we make 1 mistake and its an instant goal. We must do better, safety first not trying to toy with quality players in your own half.
Judging by Dele's celebration I reckon they thought they were finished for the day.
Its fine margins, perhaps if Eriksen had scored that chance shortly after we might have steamrolled them but not getting the 2nd before they scored hurt us.

I don't think this would have affected the result but it's just another jab in the bollocks... The fucking ref again.
Jesus Christ if Herrerra isn't the Spanish Kante. Trillions of unpunished niggly cunty fouls, and our players get instant yellow for first tackle, or it seems that way at least.
Seems like he can just break up play by any means necessary and never have to worry about a card until after 80 mins.
Also the Utd players are all going to go on and have very successful soap opera careers after finished with football.

I sadly think it's going to take a monumental effort to not fuck up 4th place now.
We seem to have shot ourselves in the foot after the chavs game.
Frustrating, as we know how well we can play.
I really think something behind scenes is ruining the mojo.

Sorry for long post, needed to vent a little.

I broadly agree - but while Sanchez has done well this season, Toby is substantially better. Today's defending for Utds second was old school naivety of the type before he arrived.
I agree with this, but I love this about Poch. He is trying to build for the long-term at Spurs. Plenty of managers, like Redknapp, look to the short term and just get the best 11 on the pitch. If you care about the club, like Poch seems to, surely you support his policy of players having to respect him and the club and be team players, or they aren't playing. Give me long-term growth over short-term trophies everyday of the week. I'm in this for life, I'll take a title in 5 years over an FA cup this year

Can’t argue against that, but for me, the question is if we are making progress in that long-term build or if we’re now largely treading water (Walker out/Aurier in, Toby out/Sanchez in, whoever may be next). This isn’t a knock against Poch, as he can’t really do anything about players wanting to leave the club on account of pay and/or a easier path to trophies, but perhaps it’s a realisation that the way the club is structured, this is as good as it gets. I wish I shared your optimism that we will get that title in 5 years but as it stands, and we’ll see if anyone else leaves this summer, I think we have to accept that any season with a finish in the top 4 is a successful one.

The team may be standing still (although the key members are progressing towards peak-age and gaining valuable experience individually and collectively) but the club is making giant strides forward. We need to be closer financially to the top clubs, we need to be in the champions league; we are doing this.
You might be right about several key players leaving this team and Poch having to start again. But if we are patient with him, and he is patient with us, I think we will win the league within 5 years. Furthermore, I think this is the only way we will win the league, dirty money aside

I think we're doing about as well as can be expected in the league - dirty money is why we can't win it.

Best hope for glory is the cup competitions where any team can win in a one-off performance, which is why yesterday was so disappointing. Too many passengers.

Leicester won it. We just have to be consistent every year, start faster, we will get there. I still believe.
I'm hoping our reserves are getting that much stronger that we can have a better go at the league cup. We are going to meet the top sides in the cups every year, I think luck has a lot to do with it once you have the right foundations in place

You know what makes me laugh?

When the news Wenger announced he was leaving multiple news outlets were listing his "achievements", and they all included "his team qualified for the Champions League for 20 consecutive years".

So they'll cunt us off for losing our last 8 semi finals, but praise a bloke for 20 years of failing to win a competition.

Leicester was a one-off, an incredible story that won't be repeated.

I think we can mature into a trophy-winning team but I see cups as being our best chance of this, where we just need to manage key moments better in matches.

I honestly think that Poch just had a little melt and he'll have a meeting with Levy and the players and come back stronger.

Very frustrating game, but Mourinho is the best in the world at frustrating teams.

Thought Alli, Eriksen, Vertonghen and Dier all played well. Sanchez, Son and Kane particularly poor. Vorm showed us why Hugo is undroppable. Full backs offered nothing.

Rose and Toby will go. I think we should offload Aurier too and get a new pair of full backs and a new centre back.

I've been saying it for almost 10 years, but we need to sign a quality striker. Someone to at least try to challenge Kane.

Some of the people on here are embarrassing. Like little kids that didn't get the present they put in their letters to Santa. Embarrassing levels of entitlement that I've never seen at our club before.

We will go again. The project is still on course.
I liked that
Until you called it "The project"
:)

The key moments for me were at 1-0. Kane should have headed into the goal. Eriksen could have passed into the net. With a bit more luck - or, rather, sharpness and belief - we would easily have had a 2-3 goal margin. We had the most sustained and intense attacking period of either team by far, but couldn’t make it count.

I do worry about Kane. Each time he’s injured, it seems to take a while to get him really going. He was laboured and ineffective. But he’s still by far the best striking option we have, and untouchable when it does magically click.

Aside from this week, the club is in fantastic shape. The reaction is a bit OTT on here, but reflects the hurt, the caring and the passion in our supporters (as well as the fact that keyboard land has some utter spanners).

The whole club needs to pull close together and work damn hard to get 4 wins out of 4. That should get us third and, in our season away, would be a monumental achievement. Anyone who disagrees doesn’t understand our history and what it’s taken to get consistent CL qualification against 5 clubs with far bigger resources than us.

COYS.

The project is never ending , fragile and never will reach fufillement under present direction with club strategy.
Modern football will not allow a competitive winning team to be built on just academy/prospects, low spend , low wages. They will eventually cherry pick / player dissatisfaction . We will gladly take their money . From the best wing backs to mediocrity, it take years to find that quality again on low limited spend .
We have done very well under Poch and could ask no more for him but will be in the same position at best in 10 years . A project/team building we have heard it all before for a decade .
Your optimism is self delusion.
Nobody supports us for self entitlement, perfectic low belt comments of the pompous deluded. We all live with the never ending enventual pain .

All the people excusing the defeat because Utd have more money and can buy better players....is Lingard now better than Dele then? Lukaku better than Kane? Pogba better than Eriksen?
Jones better than Jan?

It’s bollocks. Utd are average, but that little fucking badge on their chest means something to their players.

Our badge says stepping stone.

You say this at every step along the way. Over the years on here I've heard, Levy's got an itchy trigger finger, he'll never stick with a manager: wrong. We'll never be a consistent top 4 side: wrong. The stadium won't be built: wrong. We'll never mount a title challenge: wrong. We will never keep hold of our best players: wrong. The progress may not be at the speed you like, but it's the best progress of any club in Europe. Children always want things now, now, now; it's the role of the adults in the room to tell them to wait
