Match Tottenham Hotspur v Ajax, Champions League Semi-Final, Tue 30th April

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Man I’m buzzing for this. Really hope one of winks/Sissoko can play they add so much more energy speed of passing and dynamism between them.

Who will be on De Jong? Think there will be an interesting carrousel surrounding Eriksen/ De Jong and Schone/ Winks or Sissoko

Both teams trying to free their playmaker on Ajax half.

Think Spurs defenders will do quite well agains Tadic as they are smart, moving players unlike Juve/ Real defenders who struggle with the false 9 role

People seem to be quaking about ajax. Yes, they have had some good results in the champions league. But in both those games they had little pressure (it was all on Juventus/Real) and had a situation where one goal would totally swing the tie in their favour.

I'd remind you that Ajax are currently level on points with PSV. That's the team that finished bottom of our group. That's the team that we took 4 points off (should've been 6 but for bad calls at their place) and basically did nothing but defend for 180 minutes.

I do think ajax have grown as the season has gone on but some perspective. We can definitely beat them. I think it's in our favour that we have the home leg first. Do you seriously believe we will play as bad as Saturday again? I don't think so.
Fair play to ajax in the ecl ..like us theyve took there chance.. there not world beaters though as you so rightly also differ from above..they also have players like blind and tadic who couldnt really hack it at clubs in the premiership and Eredivise is nowhere near the standard of our domestic league ..we are in still in this as slight favourites.

Nice post mate.

My nerves have started to kick in already this morning!!!

I do still make Ajax favourites for this game, based purely on current form and our injuries.

But one thing that people still default to is even when we are not playing well we are a very, very tough side to beat. We are a team that always stays in the game, just look at what we did against Dortmund away, everyone knew what to expect, we all knew they would through the kitchen sink at us and they did. We can do that again. That's not to say Ajax will chuck the kitchen sink at us in the first leg but I'm confident that they will be expansive and look to get more than one away goal, they will not sit deep.

Our issue right now is we are not equipped to counter a side that attacks us, this is where I'm most nervous. Without Son (& Kane, who actually is a linch-pin building quality counters). Big problem for me is Llorente is not built for counters, not bad as target man but Lucas would have to be close to him, maybe go 4-4-2 and old school big man little man up top.

Lloris
  • Trippier (I would prefer Aurier but might be miles off fitness??)
  • Alderweireld
  • Vertonghen
  • Rose
  • Wanyama
  • Dier
  • Alli
  • Eriksen
  • Lucas Moura
  • Llorente
Bench: Winks(???), Davies, Sanchez (could play if we go 3ATB), Lamela(???), Foyth, Gazza, Skipp. If no Lamela & Winks then KWP and errrrr??

I'm sure we will see a response from the boys, tomorrow. (We better fucking had, anyway!). If they were half focused on this game, when we played west ham, then they'd better damn well make it count.
