Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I’m all for Eriksen signing a new deal to stay, but would it not be awkward if he did? He came out and said he was ready to leave. The club he wanted targeted another player instead of him. Then he comes back.

This thread makes me question my place in existence. . . :avbnaa:

There is an easy way to find out. You go out in a stream, until it reaches your knees, bring a bucket. Then you take the bucket and dig out as much water you can, and take a good look at the hole you're leaving. That hole is a reminder of all our places in existence.

And praise Satan! (That's something we do on page 666 isn't it?)

Bottled the PL? Look I'm no apologist for that lot but 97 points? You cannot get that amount of points without having a team where everyone makes a significant contribution and is unbelievably consistent throughout a season.

They've built a squad to challenge Man City all the way and one which has reached two CL finals in a row and won one. Our task is to do exactly the same but to do even better than them and win the PL. Why not.

Because in order to do that we have to match them in both spending and wage demands, the reason they are where they are is because they have continuously spent a fortune investing in the squad.

We, on the other hand haven't signed a player in 18 months, our biggest transfer fee is under £40m and our top paid player is on under 200k.

I mean, I want us to do it but I don't expect Levy or ENIC to change anytime soon, they might not even be capable of spending that kind of money (or they may not want to and are just happy with qualifying for CL and turning a profit in the new stadium) the truth is, we may never match City or Liverpool unless we get new owners, we might have hit the glass ceiling with our current owners, it's impossible to tell at this point what is going to happen.

But yeah, basically if we want to replicate what Pool are doing then we have to match them in the market, I don't know how, or if, we can do that but that's what needs to be done.

Melt in coming:

You can’t take your time with transfers for players that are so highly coveted around Europe, not unless you are one of the absolute elite.

We are not at that level yet, the chance to sign an Ndombele for anything less than £100 million does not come around that often for a club like us.

The lack of talk about a fee being agreed or a medical booked makes me think this will go the same way it always does. A bigger club swooping in and paying the extra 10 mill we are negotiating against and us watching him play somewhere else next season.

What are we like 2 weeks away from pre season now? Cumon Levy get this over the line, all the stuff about him wanted to go on holiday first is bullshit.

:levystare:

I’m honestly fine with him going at this point. He’s a great player but the team needs a shake up, and we need players who are committed.
Last season he played almost every game, many out of position and normally ran more than anyone else. He was poor (most of our players were) but I personally don't question his on field commitment. I cant imagine any player in his position doing likewise.

When we have Levy as chairman our players either have to kick up a stink or run down their contract to get a move if they are interested, its the good and bad part of having him as chairmen. If he signs another contract with no buyout he will be showing his commitment.

I don't disagree we need a shakeup but any player we bring in will initially be of lesser quality and I am not convinced the alternates we are linked with will every reach his levels.

Ndombele says he's going on holiday before thinking about his move, Lo Celso is at the Copa America, Sessegnon with the England U21s for their tournament and they seem to be the three we are being linked most with.

With all 3 clearly pre-occupied elsewhere at the moment I really don't see anything happening for the next couple of weeks. Clarke might get a bit of movement but the big players I'm pretty sure we can shut up shop for another 14-15 days , I can't see any movement at all until July.

The transfer market it consuming itself:

Pogba
Sanchez
Neymar
Bale...

...the list goes on of players who have priced themselves out of a transfer... big gambles that you can argue haven't paid off (even with Bale, it's not what they hoped for).

I can see more teams getting lumbered with players on high salaries, sitting out contracts as others don't want to cover it.

This will start trickling down to smaller clubs as they increase salaries to try and keep up but without the financial muscle to cover the losses it will end up being their downfall.

Ozil too.

We don't have to match them pound for pound. We have got to where we are without spending vast fortunes like our rivals have.

The key is buying the right players. Man Utd have outspent Liverpool over the last 5 of 6 years but look at the shambles they are in and compare that to the progress Liverpool have made.

Our team and squad needs investment but we don't have to blow our budget to improve. Signing Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sessegnon etc is perfectly possible for us, the money is there and the players seem willing so it's just a matter of doing the deals. That's Levy's job, Poch has identified who he wants and he deserves to be backed
