It goes back to Grealish argument.

perhaps Poch wants him at 45m but not 70m if he knows total budget he may wish to spend that elsewhere or if we are willing to pay that move up a class (de Jong) and we will never know.

If we end up paying what the selling clubs supposedly want our window, according to reports would end up looking like:

£70m Ndombele - £10m-£15m more than he's worth
£70m Lo Celso - £20m more than he's worth
£40m for Sessegnon - £15m more than he's worth
£20m for Clarke - £10m more than he's worth

That's roughly £60m more we'd be spending than we should because we choose not to play the game. It comes with risk but that's a years worth of stadium debt just through the art of negotiation we'd be saving ourselves. People need to look at the bigger picture and see how important that money is to us currently. I'm not sure what the prices and fees are or will be but £10m here or there does make a difference when you look at all things involved. £60m saved would near enough pay for most of our squads wages for the season, it's a big old chunk.

Tottenham will have to pay up to £63m to land their number one summer transfer target Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon.
Sky Sports News understands negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, although a deal is not close to being agreed.
The versatile midfielder, who cost Lyon just £7m last summer, is currently on holiday and will take that time so consider his future before deciding on his return in July.

How do you work out what a player is worth? You pricing by a certain amount per kilo?

A player is worth what he brings to the team. What he helps us to achieve. Until then, he’s “worth” fuck all.

If I were the club I'd be spending the next week or two before his return from holiday lining up alternatives. Got to be proactive and expect the worst just as a precaution.

How the hell did he only cost them 7m?!

63 million for Ndombele is nuts.

I want us to sign players as much as the next guy, but it's a slippery slope, and if we start making this our new norm we could end up like Leeds in no time.

If Levy offers 50 millions and the French Levy doesn't take it, we need to move on.

I don’t think the club have plans to buy Sessengnon because we have already 2 decent LBs and priorities are in the midfield, right back and upfront. So cross out Sessengnon. Unless Davies or Rose leave which I doubt.
Ndembele is a possibility.
I believe there won’t be more than 50m net spend budget.
Levy’s priority is sort out contracts or sale of Toby and Eriksen before comiting to buy any player. I won’t be surprised if both players resign and another windows with zilch spend!!! No that can not happen.

On 31 August 2017, Ndombele moved to Lyon on a one-year loan. According to L'Équipe, Lyon paid €2 million for the loan. Lyon also secured an option to sign him permanently for €8 million, plus a possible €250,000 in bonuses and 20% of any profit made should he be transferred from Lyon to another club.

So Amiens stand to make c. £20m in total, not too bad.

If that is correct Levy has managed to cut 7 mil from Lyon's original asking price. That is very good.

Our wages to revenue levels are insane in the last accounts, we have cash and have to play in the market (now at the top end) - if Fred and that fella Chelsea bought and loaned to milm was 50m+ 60+ seems about right, not basing that on his performances just cost

What if Liverpool had said that for VVD and Alisson?
