Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I’ve seen people say N’Dombele and Lo Celso would be our new CM pairing in the 4231 formation. Is Lo Celso defensive enough for that role? He seems a bit more attack minded than Winks.

But if he could play the Winks role that’d be amazing. Those two with our attacking four ahead of them would be lethal. And I think the press would be improved.

Top 4 is par

( reality is this is still over achieving - if we get it this will be the last year as I am confident our revenues will be enough that we need to be winning something otherwise it will be seen as failure)
We were lucky to scrape into the top 4. We were helped by Chelsea, Woolwich and United. We made it with a lacklustre draw at home to Everton which we should have won decisively in our shiny new stadium. In short we were incredibly lucky. But those teams who let us through the cracks are not going to do it again. They'll be investing so we MUST also invest. Good investments usually pay off and although it's a cliche, you have to spend money to make money. I think Levy is incapable of paying anything other than what he thinks is a bargain price and in today's football market, he's going to miss out. So Spurs are going to miss out. And ultimately we, the loyal supporters will miss out. This is the time to invest. Get the people to fill the new stadium and win at least one trophy..

He shouldn't say winning is impossible as that simply isn't true. We are big outsiders but to say it's impossible sells the team short.

Give the man £100m + any coin made from player sales and see what he can do with it. That should keep him sweet and happy enough to take us up another notch even if it is just a little one.
Remember Leicester....that one came out of nowhere

Come on, it's getting pathetic. Why do you have such a hard time admitting van Dijk is a great player? He performs for both club and country and was fantastic at both Celtic and Southampton as well
I don’t think he is it’s as simple as that.
Watch him.....if you think he’s technically gifted, then good for you.
He benefits from his full backs pace and has a good sense of positioning, that’s it.

That’s why Poch fucked up by not targeting him with Moura and Son. We put an injured/fat slug Kane right in his pocket and then everyone started wanking about him.

A lot of betting sites suspending betting or having very short odds now on Jack Clarke being our first signing through the door. Very exciting player, definitely the Poch type.

With Ndombele, Lo Celso and Sessengon all on other duties, I think we won't hear much for a week or so. We may agree a fee, but still got to speak to the player regarding terms. I'm strangely confident we will sign all 3 of them though.

I think this is a new era, I really do. Poch has completed his first 5 year project and really went above and beyond. He has earned to chance to spend money and really push for the title.

To be honest, it's pretty interesting transfer times. The transfer sums has gone through the roof and the salaries is crazy high. This together with FFP could mean that clubs sitting with expensive players on very high salary that hasn't delivered could (are already?) end up with players that's unsellable. This together with FFP rules puts these teams in a Gordian knot. RM and Bale, Chelsea is already there, hd m and had to sell Hazard. Woolwich with Özil. Potentially PSG with Neymar. United with Pogba.

I think it's important that Spurs doesn't end up in that kind of problems. I'm sure Levi won't.

But it will be a couple of interesting years.

In response.... We were incredibly unlucky last year due to the WC, no pre season and delayed access to our brand new shiny stadium, we helped Chelsea, Woolwich and man u get anywhere near us. We got the draw we needed and hit our target, we won't let them get close next year. Without those things the cracks won't be there and all things being equal we will improve.

Due to managers, budget and bans they won't improve significantly while we will with the rest and preseason. I think levy pays the price if its a decent price as proved by Sanchez and the accepted De Jong bid, I am confident he will do it again.

Teams who were stock piling players previously are now being threatened. PSG, City and others have these players that they need to get rid of to balance the books, but because they paid such high wages to sign them initially, they are struggling to move them on.

Neymar broke the market with his move to PSG. The market needs a reset, but I can't see it happening anytime soon.

Chelsea didn't have to sell Hazard because of FFP or funds.

Who are City getting rid of? What high earners are PSG struggling to get rid of? I know they are open to Neymar but that does not seem to be FFP but the fact he is a cunt.

How many of these do you think were positive signings?

1. Paul Pogba - £93.25m
2. Romelu Lukaku - £75m
2. Virgil van Dijk - £75m

4. Alvaro Morata - £70m
5. Alisson Becker - £67m
6. Fred - £61.2m
7. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - £60m
7. Riyad Mahrez - £60m
9. Angel Di Maria – £59.7m

10. Aymeric Laporte - £57m

Laporte

Mahrez is good but not well suited to city.

This is what I pointed at in my early post

It's unlikely to impact the big clubs but on the ones with less resources trying to follow suit and keep up. They will be the ones who end up over spending and will be left with sub standard players on elevated wages which nobody wants or can afford. In time this will cripple certain clubs...

What we also need to consider with these elevated transfers is the wage that accompanies them, a player transferring for £40M will be expecting a different salary to a player going for £80M. This could unsettle the rest of the squad or force a club to increase their wages relatively.

I'm not saying we are in the position where this will cause a problem but teams with less financial clout are going to get drawn into this whirlpool and once in wont be able to swim out.

Daniel James who United have signed looks like a quality player and Sean Longstaff from Newcastle who they're apparently going for looks like a real prospect too.

I'm a big Levy fan but I have to say I think we've made an error in not making more young British signings, getting hold of players before there value sky rockets. Alli and Dier have added approx £130 million to the value of our squad with their development and watching Winks grow into a real player has been one of the most satisfying things of the past 24 months.

I think we should and should've speculated even more on young British talent in the past two years and should now. We'll find some gems and even when we make a mistake, the net transfer spend would still look great, which would surely please the bald-headed one.

Of course we should also make major, world-class signings but I can't see why we shouldn't have signed another 3-4 promising young British players, it's a strategy that works.

Good thing you're not involved with the club in any scouting matters. Why do you have such a hard time admitting that you're wrong? Your ego is massive

I'm not sure but I think we have signed a couple of youngsters already this window? A keeper and a forward? (although I could be wrong)

We have indeed.

And it is a bit of a double edged sword. If we targeted mainly young, developable British talent there would definitely be sections of our fanbase that would be angry and claim that we "lack ambition" and that we are not really building a strong side.

The moral of the story is that in the modern transfer market you cannot please everybody. There will always be someone that thinks that it was not enough or that we went for the wrong player etc.
