Quick question....do you wish we had signed him?

Yep. Him, Kovacic, Grealish. In fact pretty much anyone breathing who would have given us numbers and rotation in midfield this season just gone by. Even Onomah!

We knew Dembele wouldn't last another season. To not sign a replacement this time last year verged on criminal.

Barkley is another on the list of Schneiderlin, Berahino, Kovacic, etc who we were linked with but didn’t get. Players who failed to hit the heights at the club they ended up with. The argument being “they were shite for them, so they’d have been shite for us”.

Utter nonsense. So many variables have to be taken into account that there’s no way that argument works. Barkley may well have played a pivotal role for us last season. He may not have. But to argue that he didn’t play well for Chelsea so would’ve been the same for us is crap.

Problem at he time is that Barkley had injured himself again in a come back game after having been out for a year - and the new injury we a very bad ACL injury.

Chelsea took the risk of £15m purchase and a mega wage for 5 year contrsct not knowing when or if he'd be fit to play.

In the end Barkley took about 6 months before coming back gradually making minimal impact in his first season at Chelsea. He's been a decent player n the 2nd season for them - not a superstar.

Barkley wanted a Chelsea mega wage even when not fit, otherwise he. Could have come to Spurs.

But I am not sure too many Spurs fans would be that impressed by signing a crock who doesn't play for a first sesson. In the end it's paid off for Chelsea - except they probably don't need him and Loftus Cheek but that's Chelsea, why not buy even when a youngster is obviously coming through

Time flys.... He's shown signs of a little bit of a bounceback the second half of last season, but taking into account his injury ravage last 18 months at Everton and 1 1/2 years of meh at Chelsea he'd have been a waste of a squad spot and wages for the last 3 years!
Not sure where three years comes from. Weren’t we linked in January 18 when he signed for Chelsea?

Yeah we really took a very unnecessary risk with our goings on last summer. Dembele missed 3 months out injured before we sold him and both Dier and Wanyama pretty much missed the whole of the season. Eriksen and Dele helped out massively dropping deep to accommodate our lack of depth and I do think it impacted their attacking numbers to some degree.

Mad to think that two of our most important players ended up being Winks and Sissoko as neither were starters for us the seasons prior to the last one. We did get away with it big time even after we had our rancid spell towardsthe end of our league campaign. Fresh CM legs required even if Poch doesn't get his first choice.

Once again, not sure about this injury thing. Barkley signed for Chelsea early January and made his debut three weeks later. Any injury he then suffered may not have happened if he were playing for us. It’s all a bit Sliding Doors.

Erik Lamela. 4 year contract on £70k odd a week?

Signed 2013 for £30m.

Surely Grealish/Barkley/Kovacic money?

At the risk of stating the obvious, it's 24 June. Window closes on 8 August.

45 days and counting.

Do we have a scouting department?

Thought he'd signed summer 17.... However, hadn't played for nearly 18months prior to leaving Everton while peeps were saying it was still worth a punt at 30m throughout said period... A season and a half later and he's been an in-and-out presence for the Chavs.

3 years > 2 1/2 years if you prefer.

There's still very little to suggest us not signing him is worth mourning.

Most of our apparent targets are either away on international duty or have other interest from bigger clubs who can offer bigger wages and greater opportunity to win things. I'm pretty calm about it but if they don't come off we have to take it on the chin that plan B and C options may have taken up offers elsewhere.

With players such as Ndombele, Lo Celso, Ceballos, Rabiot, Berge, Partey, Diawara, Sessegnon, Bergwijn, Clarke, Atal, Aarons, Joachim Andersen and Andre Gomes etc all still to tie up moves elsewhere though I do think there's enough quality options out there for me to be relatively chill about it all at present. There hasn't been a lot of Premier League signings across the whole league this summer so far so overall I think it's all good with 6 weeks + left to tell the truth mate

Big big mistake from mike Ashley

From a pure football point of view; no doubt.

Allegedly he pledged a 50m (+ sales) trf budget... Rafa wanted more, but Ashley wants some of his money back (via TV income pressumably).... What can you do? (It's what we hope happens to Chavs & Roman at some point).

Just heard mention that he wanted to take over the whole recruitment process too.

Surely nothing's going to happen until the players speak with Poch before preseason starts?

Unless they are players who have already been told to look for new clubs...Janssen etc.

Pre-season starts in a couple of weeks. For the manager and squad it's a time for tactics/formation changes/new ideas and drills as well as fitness.

It's vital that all players have a full pre-season (no Euros or World Cup to get in the way) and the squad doesn't need a couple of strangers dropped in a week before we play Villa.
