Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He's quoting a source from Canal+ so every chance it's real - and 2nd journo with a similar story. Fekir has one year left on contract failed a medical at Liverpool last summer so Aulas trying to move him on to get a fee.

Canal+ is about as credible and ITV. There's probably some truth that Betis would like to sign him but not a lot that he's actually interested. Who would want to swap a CL club to a club not even in Europe in the year of a major international tournament?

: ostrich:
Based upon the clubs that have theoretically been interested in Trippier, we can only assume one of the following.

1. The majority of Spurs fans are suffering mass delusions about his quality.
2. These clubs are suffering from mass delusion.
3. This is possible evidence of some type of money laundering a la Paulinho and Barca.
4. Just further evidence that most articles are based on lies, pure speculation or some type of hallucinogenic drugs.

If he's beign offered the rumoured 5 year deal at €7m a season and he does actually have a dodgy knee like was reported after his failed Liverpool move he might be weighing it up and thinking it's the safe thing to do.

If he has got a dodgy knee and breakdowns next year with barely months on his contract he'd be writing off his peak years. If the Betis offer is the only one on the table, it might be a case of taking the sensible, guaranteed option.

I very much agree with that part, but I don't think we should look at players who compete with Dav or Foyth. We need reinforcements for the present, because we have a very decent future in Dav and Foyth.

I don't know which defender would slot right in to our starting 11. Maguire and de Ligt are going at rates we won't match. Then maybe Ruben Dias or John Stones, if the later is surplus to requirements at City. Dunno.

...but Sanchez, now 23, I would expect him to step up his game. He always looks solid when playing for Colombia.

Apparently Betis offering much higher wages than Lyon

A number of news sources in both France and Pain carrying a similar story

I wouldn't dismiss it at the moment. Besides which if Betis have a pile of cash from Lo Celso deal just a question if who they sign (doesn't really concern Spurs) but they can only do a deal once Lo Celso sold. And as Lyon have to sell Fekir (as I said in last post,) it's just a question as to where he goes.

And as we know there is s lack of quality RBs around atm, hence interest iin Trippier.....and hence we bought Airier who hasn't shone so far for us

I get on the face of it sounds like bad business.

But if you make the following 4 assumptions that (a) Toby is almost certainly leaving within the next 13 months, and (b) in the next 12 months he’ll be more effective than Saliba, and also due to game time (c) that Saliba will progress more being the main man at St Etienne than being 4th or 5th choice with us next season, and finally (d) that he is one of the best 18 year old CB’s in the world and therefore his price would increase.
Then for the “loss” of £25m we not only gain a season out of Toby making us stronger but we’ve secured a top class youngster.

However, whilst I’m 99% on all of (a)-(c), having never seen him play I can’t comment on (d). Therefore if he’s not world class for his age it is less of an attractive deal.

Mate - I wasn’t being sarcy - I agree with you. I got half way through my message and then got called by the Mrs ... and accidentally clicked send lol.

I think it’s good business - and I don’t have a problem with Toby walking for free after what he has contributed. The biggest risk is that Saliba doesn’t turn out to be all that ...

In a world of crazy transfer fees, to think you could get a Fekir for the price of a 2016 Sissoko, or 5m more than a 2017 Aurier, seems fucking outrageously good value.

Fekir has a major medical oroblem (failed Liverpool medical).

Hence price - think back to players like Denver Barr and Rossi to understand pricing and risk in signing such players.

That is why Spurs won't sign him - probably cannot get insurance for him

Windy may very well have stumbled upon a potential new 3rd choice goalkeeper in our ranks:

Edward Smith, 23 year old goalkeeper who currently plays for Southend United could very well be turning out for our starting XI against Ebbsfleet United right now. I think we've been linked with him in the past so unless it's a mad coincidence...

Don't forget we took another ex E youth hopeful on loan for about 6 months as a favour to an agent a year or two ago....then released him

I think with all transfer news it's best to assume number 4 until proven wrong.

Honestly, I have a small fear about this. We are so excited to get rid of Trippier that we will walk into an even bigger problem without him. Hell, not even Aurier could walk into the role.

Trippier was very, very poor for much of last season, poor enough that I would look at some combination of Aurier, KWP and Foyth as having a good chance to improve upon that position.

But at the same time, we know Trippier is a better footballer than what he showed. This is the same guy who pushed Kyle Walker out of the side and was perhaps England's top performer in their run to the semifinals of a World Cup.

That World Cup denied him a proper preseason and may have swollen his head a bit, and it could very well be that he's poised to return to his top form. When it was Napoli betting on that I was willing to consider it a beneficial change of scenery for all parties. But now Juve, Atletico and Bayern are sniffing around? These are some of the smartest clubs in the world who have apparently come to the conclusion that we're irrationally giving up on a good player in his prime for a cut-rate fee. That scares me.

I guess you don't know what you've got till it's gone.
