Aturo Vidal - Played for Juventus, Bayern and now at Barca. Won it all. Been told he can leave Barca. All round midfielder. Animal.

Nemanja Matic - Man Utd, played for Chelsea and Benfica. Won the league, Europa League and FA Cup. Not as good as he once was, but better than the current CDM options we have. Very close with Mourinho.

Blaise Matuidi - CDM for Juventus, previously PSG. Won it all other than CL. French national team, friends with Lloris. Out of contract in the summer.

They are all the wrong side of 30, but all are experienced and would improve us.

Experience is what we need at the moment. Players that can come in a do a job.

Matuidi isn't a DM at all.

Would be nice though. A good player.

This is about the shortest of short term fixes. We need planning and an acceptance of the worst case scenario which is we will not get top 4 - but that was baked into the cake in the summer. Wasting time or money on any of these codgers would be a massive mistake. Yes, they may help 'improve' what we are presently (ie from total shit to just shit) but it will still be shit. We could buy all 3 and we would still not improve to the point that top 4 would be likely. This would be a desperate move.

Plan, scout, make some moves for younger players and get rid of the deadwood should be the plan. And we should avoid bringing in rotting wood like these 3 or giving contracts to players that have shown they are not good enough or past it.

Mate, we cannot afford to slip too much

If that means an element of short term fix so be it.

If not we will end up paying top dollar for all players because we will be seen as desperate.

And worse allow the few nuggets we still have questioning their futures.

The worst case scenario to build from next season in terms of league position is around 7th or 8th.

I thought that was his natural position? I know he’s played more advanced for France nationally though. Would you say he’s more a CAM?

Not really - wouldn't compare him stylistically to Dembele but he is pretty much box to box, solid defensively but probably wouldn't be best utilised as a DM, like Dembele wasn't.
