I literally can't wait until he fucks off. Had the chance to be a legend here, and was definetely on the road of becoming one, but downed tools and decided to leave like a complete cunt. I won't miss him, even if we do worse without him.

Interesting to read all the blowhards with their expert opinions on Vecino - like all the real Spurs fans on this site I watch primarily Spurs games, I do watch highlights of other games having great football coverage that includes all the big European leagues, but highlights like youtube clips are a piss poor way of judging a player, far better to ask a die-hard couple of Inter fans (yup we have 'em all out here) so I did.

Pretty much they had an identical opinion, which I took as a good sign, he's a shuffler meaning he gets the ball passes it a short distance and makes himself available, he does that all over the pitch and will create chances in the final third as well as make tackles in defence, but he's not in anyway spectacular. Just very reliable. Both were very surprised Inter would let him go, very surprised. Worth noting he's a guaranteed starter for Uruguay in the last three years.

Now whilst I'm not in the Blakey camp on Sissoko, and think Dier and Winks are better than a lot of people on here give them credit for I can see the appeal of Vecino, where our midfield tends to go missing Vecino is the bloke who always gets in the way, he's even called "il blocco" not sure if that's in praise or taking the piss.

People moan about our lack of this type of player then complain that he's "to shit" when a non superstar name gets mentioned. He might not be a Kante or a Kroos but he's not 100m either. All squads need hard working but slightly invisible squad players, Vecino might be OK for doing just that.

Could we do better? of course we could but that doesn't mean Vecino wouldn't add strength to our squad.

Lets accept all you say about the player is correct.

Then we consider that we can only have 17 overseas trained players at any one time - and under CL definition we already have 17 overseas trained players. We could squeeze in one or two more by NOT registering say Sissoko (injured until April) etc.

Fact is nobody can compete with just 17 players in the squad - we need the HG players, but good Club Trained players are not easy to bring through and nor is it that easy to buy good HG players trained at other English clubs. That's why we have 4 Club trained players (Kane, Winks, Rose, KWP - and you will note the last 2 may leave ) and one player trained by other FA affiliated clubs (Dele, with Sessegnon joining him when over 21).

So we have spare spots in the squad for HG players - but not Overseas Trained Players without cutting corners.

The underlying problem that Spurs have had is signing 'squad filler' level players who are overseas trained players rather than reserving the 17 overseas trained player places for our top players.

So the question becomes - is Vecino a top player or likely to become one ? Or is he another player that is going to be necessary to shift next TW so that we can sign top quality Overseas Trained Players

I fear he's more of a 'squad filler' who we will need to shift to sign top overseas trained players next TW.

And shifting players like Wanyama (or not over 2 or 3 TW's) shows why that's a problem.

Your right actually

With 30 points from 22 games we are clearly doing something right

Chelsea finished 10th in the 15/16 season only to go on and win it the season after in 16/17. Teams go through bad times and good times it's the cycle of the game.

We're coming up short at the moment but anyone knows a nucleus consisting of players like Lloris, Alderweireld, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Dele, Son & Kane really ain't in that bad a nick. A couple of shit hot signings in the summer, so long as Gedson beds in well and we'll be right back up into it.

A ropey season but we have the funds, the status to add a few that'll sort us out. We'll be alright just got to play the game for a while, ride that wave etc.

But that argument assumes that the 17 overseas players we now have are better than Vecino ... or that they are going to be around next season.

Vertongen, Wanyama, Eriksen almost certainly off the books Aurier may well be gone as well. Are we going to spend 240m on four foreign superstars to fill these three slots? Would love to think we are but it's hardly likely.

We do need to add some HG talent ... but then who doesn't.

Remind me again who Chelsea's manager was at the begining of the 15/16 season when they went on to finish tenth?

The same fella who won it for them season 14/15:

Ndombele didn't go from zero to ripping it up though did he. He struggled. Got rejected by a Ligue3 and several Ligue 2 teams. And was considered to be worth about 5m (that's less than we got for Jake Livermore 15 years gaol's) about two years before we bought him.

Pretty sure there was a Toddierre on Amiens Cocks Forum saying "fuck Ndombele the fat cunt, he's been here 5 minutes and he's not world class already".

Did you watch Mendy's first 3 games for La Havre ? Was he world class ? KWP doesn't have to be better than Ferland fucking Mendy to play for us, he just needs to be able to take a fucking throw and not give a penalty away with every tackle and he'd at least have been a free alternative to the clown we've had there for the last two years.
Dammit! I don't have a comeback. This is embarrassing . Round 2147 (under protest*) to you BC. :mourbye:

Then proceeded to finish outside the top 4 in 3 out of the next 4 seasons, getting sacked twice.

No evidence Jose Mourinho is the man to dramatically improve teams. He's
been good at taking over clubs near the top and making incremental improvements for a season or two.

Your question was who was Chelsea's manager at the beginning of the 15/16 season when they managed to finish tenth, I was merely answering your question pal ;)

Absolutely there's no certainty that Mourinho will give us what's required to get back up in the mix next season but here we are with him at the helm so let's see how it pans out, not much else we can do as armchair fans who occasionally head down there on a Saturday afternoon really NW. A couple of strong signings and I think we could look alright next year though. It'll be interesting to see how it goes down.
