This is a nice thread.

Are we going to get similar scouting reports from the other leagues?

I would like to chip in but I don't watch any European football apart from CL and EL. So limited in my analysis.

I understand that, my point just being that I feel like he's as capable defencively as any of the players you've listed and can also be superior attacking.

I think modern football is far too fluid and complex to peg players into these neat little positional boxes anymore. Players need to be able to perform multiple functions - not least because the match load guarantees that lineups are dynamic rather than static.

I think he could easily do a job, and would be an upgrade in a double pivot on players like Dier, Sissoko and Winks, but I'm not sure I agree about him being as capable defensively as all the others, he's spent the whole season playing as an 8, with a very defensive player next to him and another very hard working 8 the other side in Sanson. He played mostly as a CM/DP, 8 and an AM at Nantes, and occasionally as a 6/DM.

Personally, I would like to see us switch to a CM3 format with Lo Celso and Ndombele as the 8's either side of a more focused, physically imposing 6. Try to get the best out of the players we have already.

I get what you are saying about pegging players, versatility can be good, but I think sometimes what a team needs is something more specific. In our case, I really think we need that.

Would Doucoure work as a DM for us ? Haven’t watched him a load of times but always impressed by him when we play Watford

Not really, he isn't a DM.

He's been playing more advanced of a 3 for Watford this season, probably a position we could try Ndombele in really.

Doucoure usually has Hughes and Capoue behind him. We could probably get Lo Celso in there with a DM and look relatively deadly.

He's more a sissoko type.

We need a DM to be disciplined and just screen the back 4.
Although I've been watching us again in the CL last season with Wanyama playing there himself and one thing that I am 100% certain is that you can't play with 1 DM alone. Even if he is a specialist. All too often I'm seeing other teams with 1 DM get run over because the DM has been dragged out of position to cover somewhere else. Leaving a massive hole in the middle.

Even someone like Ndidi at Leicester needs help from Tielemans/Pratt/Choudhry

Shouldn't necessarily be an issue for us if we did switch to the preferred system of GLC + DM + Dele/Ndombele as the other two aside from the DM would be players who are expected to do defensive work and not pure luxury/attacking players. GLC especially has shown to put in a real shift most of the time.

Yes this is correct.

But I don't see JM playing a CM3. The DM/ Ndombele and GLC 3 on paper works great. But I just can't see it happening with JM. Plus Ndombele in particular has to show that he is willing to put the defensive effort in.

To be fair, although he's always had little goes as an AM in France and Watford, he's spent the vast majority of his career as a CM/DP or DM hasn't he, it's only recently he's had a prolonged spell as an AM, and to be honest, I find it a little odd to be using him like that. Last season when Watford did really well, he played CM/DM 25 times and AM 4.

For what it's worth Doom Funk Doom Funk I think he could do a job there and be a massive upgrade on the likes of Dier/Sissoko but then to be honest, I think Capoue would have been a massive upgrade on those two the last few years as a CDM as well.

If you watch Ndombele at Lyon, defending wasn't too much of an issue, even this season he tackles more per game than Sissoko and who people seem to think is some kind of machine, but he's not a busy fucker, and because he's so good on the ball, if you want the best out of him, you really need to be playing him as an 8 in a CM3 with a proper 6/DM next to him, so he has to do slightly less defensive shift, and gets on the ball more.

It's like Pogba at Utd, if you keep asking him to be a water carrier, you aren't going to see him do as much of the stuff he's great at - but more of what they are not great at - and both Pogba and Ndombele are outstanding with the ball.

Ibrahim Sangare is a great shout. He would cost a lot less than Camavinga due Toulouse would most likely go down (if the season isn't voided).

Whilst there are some great options at DM with the likes of Ndidi, Phillips, Partey etc., my top choice would be former Lyon graduate, Elisha Owusu. He's so quick of the line that he's able to sweep big areas, which is what I'd prefer from a DM. Ndidi did use some time getting up to speed at Leicester, but it's proof that it's possible to make the jump from Belgium football.

Interesting, never seen him play (unless I caught a bit of a Europa highlight with him in it) as I don't think he made a single appearance for Lyon. Have you watched much of him at Genk?

Toulouse are definitely down by the way. Ligue1 have stopped the season and called positions where they stand - bar the relegation play off (I think).

Isnt the safest most reliable bet simply Rice with Locelso and N'dombele either side. Basically a mobile Eric Dier. With a young player say Sangare in rotation. Give Spam Parrott/skip or Sessingnon on loan. The way their finances look the have to sell an assest its either him or Diop.

Honestly no.

Firstly, Rice isn't very good. Secondly, West Ham would want way more money than he's even close to being worth. Thirdly, he really isn't very good.
