Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He was past it when he came to us, he was at one stage an elite player - World Cup winner. Doesn’t mean he wasn’t useful at times. No contradiction there. I thought Nando was alright.

He was always going to have a few mins here and there when you have Kane at the club and play with one recognised striker...

Perhaps explain in what sense you think he was past it then cos he didn't struggle at Swansea and he's never been about pace and dynamism.

The amount of comfortable wins we were getting in his first couple of seasons we could have easily afforded him more minutes to keep him lumbered.

I watched a fair deal of Monaco during the current/previous season and Slimani was great for them. 9 goals and 7 assists and part of a great duo with Ben Yedder.

I assume that the plan would be to utilize him similarly. As a big target man used to soak up pressure from the backline and set up goals rather than score a plenty.

It says we were OFFERED him, not that we are signing him. He will be just another one touted about.

I haven't spent a ton of time watching WBA this past year but with our needs, lack of funds and philosophy I am surprised that we didn't go harder for Nathan Ferguson.

Seems like he is worth a shot for what he would cost and we could pair him with Davies to hopefully see him overtake him right away or at least have a back-up option if Ferguson needs more time to be ready.

Perhaps they still see Sessegnon in that role but Ferguson seemed like a perfect add this off-season when we can't bring in a proper Davies replacement with us having to spend our limited funds elsewhere.

Yeah but let’s say selling Tanguy allows us to buy both Soumare and Eze/Benrahma. At that point I think it’s worth it.

You trust Mourinho or Levy to make sensible transfer decisions?

We'll sell Ndombele and sign players like Willian and Zouma - none of which are needed.

Leaving us needing not only a DM but another CM capable of breaking lines and resisting the press in the middle of the park.

Based on what. Yes he has shown flashes for Lyon but do we seriously expect him to do it consistently ? How long can we wait for him? 60 million player those has taken a year off

Based on what I've seen from both of them in Ligue 1.

Renato Sanches has been better than Soumare this season for a start. Remember him?

Sorry, is the team he plays for winning a trophy NOT successful then?

I guess the definition for success is different for you?

Enlighten me, oh wise retard.

No need to use that word.

So if Janssen had joined a pub team in San Marino and won a trophy you’d say he had gone on to be successful then?

I’d say he’s gone from being a top scorer in Holland, a starter in the national team, a big move to one of the top teams in one of the best leagues...to struggling to score in Mexico. But yay he won a trophy so I guess it all turned out great.

One of our biggest failings a a club is not moving players on at the right time. It's not just about the players we do or don't buy.

We have too many players hanging around whose currency has either crashed, or who weren't up to snuff in the first place.

Yep. For varying reasons Aurier, Foyth, Rose, Sissoko, Lamela, even Gazzaniga really shouldnt be here come end of the window but i bet at least 2 or 3 of them will be.

He won a trophy, his clubs first trophy in the competition for 9 years, i'd say that was successful. Regardless of the level you see it at.

Someone winning aload of trophies in San Marino is also successful. I mean, you're in the game of football to win things. Are you not?

He went from winning nothing, to going to a bigger club and winning nothing, to leaving to join a smaller club and winning a trophy. I'd say that's pretty good going for him.

But as you know from supporting Tottenham, success in competitions doesn't make you a great player. We have players in our team who have won absolutely nothing and potentially probably never will, yet you'd consider at least one of them world class. Would you not?

I imagine that is what Poch was saying with his difficult rebuild or whatever he termed it but the fact that we are likely going to have not won anything and got barely anything for guys like:

Rose, Eriksen, Lloris, Toby, Jan, Dele, Lamela, Dier

That doesn't mean that those guys haven't been great but not refreshing the squad through sales of those guys when they had value is going to hamstring us going forward, if it hasn't done so already.

Likewise currently having guys like Aurier, Moura, Winks, Sissoko. Davies that all need to be replaced but have no value themselves doesn't help either.

It seems that you have a fixed definition of what success is. I would expect Janssen would happily trade his trophy in Mexico for a well paid and prolific scoring career with us, even if it never led to a trophy.

If Kane and Janssen retired today you’d struggle to find many people that would claim the latter was more successful because of a trophy in Mexico.

Imagine an actor who has a bit-part in a film with Willem Dafoe. This actor ultimately isn’t good enough to make it in Hollywood, but later wins an award for best performance at his local amateur dramatics club. However, Dafoe (despite nominations) has never won an Oscar. I know which one I would call a successful actor, and which one I’d call a failure.

I really love these numbers. Tottenham will have to sell in order to raise funds. Tottenham will have 50/60m to spend. Tottenham will have 57.22222m to spend, and nothing more.

But if we were to spend something around 60m, I think we'd be more than fine in terms of our basic necessities: DM, RB, backup striker.
