No but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be scouted like any other player.

I share similar concerns about Holbjerg. Has he been properly scouted or are we just looking at him based on his stats Have we scoured the whole of Europe for a defensive midfielder and come to the conclusion he is the best man for the job or is he an opportune signing. I reckon he is the latter personally.

...But we've talking about player(s) whom the club likely have a working knowledge of anyway given we've played B'Muff twice a year for the past 5.

Anyway, we were rumoured to have been interested in the past; perhaps we've seen enough previously....
I don't think we can rely on that, we need to fully investigate the player. What is the attitude like? What are they like off the pitch, etc etc.

I'd go to Bayern and take Christian Fruchtl on a two year loan as our No.2 and with the promise of first team football if he shows he's worthy. No risk, low cost and the chance to turn up an uncut gem.

Nice... Providing BM want to loan and potentially lose him, of course.

I think extending Hugo's deal makes perfect sense; particularly if we are gonna ship Voorn & Gazz to make room for HLs eventual successor.

He's currently 4th choice at Bayern. 20 years old and stuck behind Neuer and Nubel, two of the very best keepers in the World. He's looking a loan and has been linked with clubs. Since Nubel is only 23, he could wait a long time for the chance at Bayern.

I understand the potential appeal to the player, but that wasn't the point I was making.

The thing is

Bayern have a big team mentality, they have a proven World class talent and they go and sign a proven World Class talent to fight the bit out. They then have a proven talent and two younger talents beyond that. There is a conveyor belt of talent for one place. That will obviously lead to players, especially at Fruchtl's age not getting the chance they need to develop further.

We on the other hand have a small team mentality, that we get a top class player and to appease them, give them what they want in the hope that will satisfy them. The form Hugo was in prior to the break suggested we should be going for a goalkeeper as a must sign this summer. Also remember, Hugo has constantly said he wouldn't finish his career here.

He has had two fairly mediocre seasons and a contract taking him up to near his 36th birthday. His replacement to me, is more of a priority than a new contract to Hugo.

Which part of this is meant to convince me that BM will let us have one of their young keepers on such cozy terms?

Who would you buy (cost say less than say £25m/£30m ) to be first choice RB ?

Aarons ? But not sure he's bettter than KWP, just with more experience
Pereira ? We should have bought him rather than Aurier, but not sure Leicester would want to sell
Castagne ? RB/LB at Atalanta and seen as Hatebor back up as welll as LLB back up
Baldock ? Not sure Sheffield United want to sell and at 27 might be older than perfect.
Bogle ? 19 year old from Derby. Bit inexperienced but potential. Not sure Derby want to sell
Smith ? Ask him if he wants to return from a relegated Bournemouth ? Now 29, might be an interim allowing 17 year old Dermi Lusala a year to make his first team debut and take the RB position in 2 years

Who has caught your eye ?

Outside of Hakimi, no one really that's the problem.

As I said in the post you originally quoted, I'm struggling to come up with suggestions for RB in terms of finding ones to get excited about. Periera would be cost prohibitive I think. I can't say I've been overly impressed with Aarons, he's quick up and down but lacks composure IMO, and defensively looks a bit weak (as you say, if we are going to pay 30m+ for him why not just keep KWP for nothing who's got similar defensive weaknesses but is a bit better on the ball). I've not seen enough of Baldock, seen nothing of Bogle or Lusala so can't comment.

Castagne looks more interesting than Hatebour to me, despite mostly being his back up this year, he does like to get forward and shows more composure in forward areas, he's just a bit one paced.

Not sure how Atal will be after serious injury, and he has mostly been used as a WB, not so much in a back 4, so not sure what he'd be like in a back 4, but he's very lively going forward.

Regardless of what you think convinces you or otherwise, it doesn't happen if we sit with our thumbs up our asses. I'd like to hear we've looked into the possibility and not just sat back building all our hopes on Hugo's new found "responsible" goalkeeping and praying the Hugo against Brighton or Southampton (on a few occasions) doesn't make more and more appearences.

I questioned why you think BM would offer us a the deal that you mentioned... The rest of your monologue isn't of any consequence to my post.

The reason behind the extention will largely be economics/security and his extention by no means confirms that we aren't on the look out for a successor. Unless you think keeping Gazz or Voorm is preferable to keeping HL in the short-term then there's little of a point to be made.

I could be wrong, but everything I've read and listened to suggested Liverpool very much wanted Werner but couldn't commit to the fee (which I think was required in one payment to effect the release clause - but I might have that wrong) due to the losses from the current situation. I read (or listen to a pod) they even asked Werner to wait a couple of months for them to try and figure it out.

I think he would have suited their quick transition system better than he'll suit Lampard's (non system ?) more laborious patterns of play, especially if he's thinking of playing him as a pure 9, but time will tell I guess.
Liverpool could have paid it if FSG loaned the club the money, which is where my head is at. Ultimately that club is run similar to Spurs except with something resembling a recruitment strategy and more money.

As Leicester is out of CL football, I guess their players are now much more open to move. And we could use half of their team. Ndidi, Pereira, Tielemans especially, I can't believe it's impossible now. Their morale must be totally destroyed after they fucked up such big points gap sitting on 3rd position whole season.

Surely one of King or Wilson should really be considered now?
