Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Who knows since we saw so little of him.

I think his story kind of got ignored because of all the stuff going on this season- Poch, Jose, Ndombele, Eriksen, Covid, Injuries- but really it was puzzling to spend so much money for him then have him basically sit out the whole season, especially when we had a major need for someone like him (or what he is reported to be). I am really not sure why we didn't loan him out if this was all he was going to do this season.

I will say that I hope he is a LB because we need someone at that position much more than we do a LW. If he cannot play LB then I would be more than fine selling him because he still likely has value based on potential and we need someone like him who can actually play FB.

I know Ndombele gets lots of the talk about us needing to figure out what he is but I think that is equally the case for Sessegnon. If he is able to play big minutes- whether in Cups, EL, EPL, starting or coming off the bench- then I am not really sure what the point is of having him on the team.
Jose did say early on that he sees his long term future at left back/wingback. But that he has to develop better positional awareness as well as some aggression before all the pieces fit together.

I assume that they have a plan for him. I think Sess will be one of the players that will benefit from the Europa League.

We absolutely have to buy new RB this summer to replace Aurier.
I am sick and tire of doing this every time i watched the game

What are people’s feelings on Sessegnon?

Is he a LB or LM?

He isn’t getting a sniff of our first XI in the front 3, so he has to be thinking about forcing his way in as a LB surely?

Will Jose want that? He’s a fan of more pragmatic full backs for sure? If we ended up with a more defensive minded RB, can you see Sess playing the attacking outlet on the left, sort of how Aurier does on the right now?

If not, do we look to offload and see what we get back? Or loan and hope to increase value?

I like the kid personally. Would like to see him playing more, especially at LB. But I don’t want to see him doing nothing and just stagnating or regressing as a player and commodity.
LM for me and one of great potential

Lets keep it simple and make all our transfers from teams both starting with B:

Bournemouth:

Wilson
Brooks
Ramsdale

Benefica:

Dias
Grimaldo
Florentino Luis

Just need a B team to get a RB and we are set (Semedo from Barca?)! Or take Adam Smith from Bournemouth but not sure that is a great addition.

See people keep saying - oh we'll replace Sissoko and Aurier and I really hope we do but Mourinho started Aurier in every single one of his pl matches and seems to quite like Sissoko too..

we know Mourniho values strong athletic players, Aurier has technique to be fair but just prone to errors, but he's very fit, and Sissoko is the same. you'd wonder.

If that is the case (I don't disagree with that assessment) then it seems odd that they didn't loan him to a club so that he can work on that positional awareness without the mistakes that comes with it playing for us.

I guess maybe they think they can do it better in training or more likely it was something that got fouled up in the switch from Poch to Jose, but to me that sounds like something that you get better on by playing not training.

I agree I hope that EL is huge for his development.

He'd still be the second coming of the oil tanker that is Steven Caulker and with hips that twist as if he's in traction...but with more game experience and he'd have found his level far sooner.

Fallacy that somehow 'early games' is going to turn a Ford into a Ferrari. If that's the case then their peak would only be 'delayed' yet we won't and don't see these poor kids turn world beaters in their mid and later 20s. Curious that.

I wouldn't mind seeing Sessegnon in the role that Aurier played for us. Bombing down the left instead of the right.

He needs to become more assertive on the ball though.
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. Looked to lack some confidence to me.

With his lack of mins and the unstable nature of our team at the start of the season can you blame him though?

I agree but as I said in another thread Jose is not stupid and there is no way that anyone can watch us play this year and see the major issues with those two.

It isn't just us as disgruntled fans talking about Sissoko and Aurier. It has been an issue brought up in the media, both Spurs and football media in general, talked about in individual games by commentators who are often very reserved in their criticism for players and talked about by fans of other clubs.

Aurier and Sissoko being awful is not a message board created issue, it is an apparent need which is why RB and DM are always brought up as major needs.

I actually don't think Jose likes watching Aurier go out there making school boy defensive errors and screwing up his defensive positioning.

That said Sissoko should have be on the bench for awhile so maybe Jose is that dumb.

He just arrived at the club, so in that sense it does make sense to keep him around and integrating him into the first team. He's gotten a year to train with the rest of the guys and the staff has an idea of what to do with him.

He also spent a decent chunk of the fall out with an injury that he got on international duty.

On the flip side we have Clarke who was the first player we bought last summer and he has done 0 training sessions with Spurs. He probably needs to spend a bit of time with the club so we can figure out a plan for him because his loans have not been great.

Sessegnon just needs games at LB. Europa should be good for him, he's lacked confidence when he's played for us but he has plenty of quality. Hojbjerg, a new RB and pre-season will hopefully provide a platform for him to start more and impress.

Funny. I wouldn't have predicted this a couple of months ago but now I'd be really disappointed if we didn't get Brooks in. I think the combination of his injuries and Bournemouth getting relegated has provided one of those rare opportunities to get an absolute bargain long term.

i am not 100% sure where he would play (likely bench) but he would be a great option to have to bring in those games where everything is stale and/or teams are parking the bus.

So maybe that is his role as a super sub who would fill in for rest/injuries. I think that is role that I am not sure we have now. Bergwijn kind of has filled that role but he is more of a guy to bring on to run into space/run to create space not so much to break teams down.

I kind of agree with you about being disappointed if we don't get Brooks or a player like him.
