Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Spurs have had pretty good profit for a number of years. If the owners haven't taken it all the should be money to invest. Especially since the club has taken a loan to cover Covid costs. But I guess you have the figures, you sound pretty sure of yourself.
He reads the figures right of Levy's shriveled ballsack at 'opportune' times.

Southampton want Skipp on loan, yet we are paying to buy a defensive midfielder from them. Not sure about anyone else but I see a different way round those deals!

I want Skipp to go to the place with most game time. Whether that’s Soton or Fulham I dunno. The Championship is probably the best fit atm, so Fulham may not be the best option should they gain promotion.

No need to hamper Skipp’s development by saving a couple of quid on the Højbjerg deal

Probably referencing this...

I love how that article says Mourinho has 'reluctantly' agreed to send Skipp on loan when he came out not long ago and said he sees him having a big future with spurs and wants him to get experience by going on loan....

Don’t get me wrong, I’m hardly jumping for joy at the signing of Hojberg, but Southampton fans are proper bitter bastards. They were saying similar things about VVD when he was leaving so go figure. If Hojberg come out and signed a contract expressing his love for Southampton, you watch them all say what a great player he is. Bitter bunch of cunts, well known for it.

in fairness to them...

Forster

Clyne Alderweireld VVD Shaw

Schniderlin Wanywama Lallana

OX Bale Mane

bench- Chambers, Lovren, Lambert, Walcott,

there's prob more. I'd be a bitter C**t too.

are Southampton just not allowed to have good players?

Yes, we have recorded profit... For a number of years these profits were being channeled into the stadium project.... Hense our transfer spend was lower than one would hope for a number of years. We took out finance for the completion of the stadium whilst also incurring significant costs for spending 18months at Wembley.

Off the back of the champions league run we announced record profits relating to that season. This allowed up to spend a decent chunk this past summer & Jan trf window. With increased matchday revenue from the new stadium one could have rightfully expected our increased ability to spent to have continued this summer had it not been for C19 (as stands though, we still haven't been able to reap a full years with of benefit from the stadium; which sucks! ...People may make Lady Gaga jokes, but even the concert & NFL revenue would help service our debt and allow matchday revenue to directed back onto the pitch).... Whilst the C19 loan would have been taken in order to legislate for lost 19/20 revenue + any considerable losses that impacts on 20/21(***), one would still hope that it does allow us to spend this summer.

(Personally, I'm anticipating £50-60m + whatever we can raise from sales... But that's just a gut feeling.)

This is all pretty basic stuff without having to nerd-out over the club accounts.... All I'm saying is that if anyone is suspicious and thinks otherwise; that we are sat on a pot of cash or that the owners are siphoning funds then their theories should be easily proven..... Funnily enough though, no-one - least of all the most vocal nay-sayers in our midst - seems to be willing to do so.

[Cue snide comments from obvious quarters....]

EDIT:

(***)Re: The C19 bank-loan....

"....Tottenham estimated £200million in losses over the next financial year due to the football shutdown."

they are just a small mid table side mate. They don’t even get in Europe, so you can understand players using them as a stepping stone.

You enquired what happened to the money.... We subsequently spent it this year.

If there is a pot of 'gold in reserve by all means let's go shopping.... If there is it should be easily proven.
For Heaven's sake Airfixx Airfixx we record year on year profits despite what we spend in the transfer market.

If we record £100million profit, and spend £100million on players, we still made a fucking profit of £100milion.

Profit is Profit. It's the excess dough a business makes after all expenditure.

Stupid Boy

Tbf, When you think back to Bale & Walcott, we're talking as far back as '07 & '06. The club also held considerable debts at the time; so much so that soon after they sacrificed their substantial sell-on clause for Bale for the sake of a quick couple of million.

For context: In a similar time frame we've lost Carrick, Modric, Bale, Walker, Berbatov, Eriksen, VDV.

Are player purchases accounted as an expense? I thought they were treated as an asset and then amortised over the period of their contract.

Each year's profit is what it carried forward to invest for the next year (be that stadium, topping up the transfer kitty or whatever).....

Sometimes incomes are projected, but GLC & co. were bought as per the 19/20 season.

"Silly boy."

I guess you're right, the equity is tranformed from cash to fixed assets, the stadium. But if I'm counting correctly it should be about £1B in profit that last 5 years so if this has all gone to the stadium it shouldn't be that much debt left to pay off. In that case it should also be pretty easy to re-loan some in order to make the fans, the owners and Mourinho happy with new players. But I understand if Levy plays it safe right now as it stands with a possible resurge in Covid in every country except Sweden that has already taken this shit by our old Viking-strategy, let all the elderly die.

Willian has 5 offers according to Eurosport

Hope we’re not one of them

Of course we are.

Levy is in there with a one year, 10k/week offer so he can come out after the transfer window and we signed nobody and talk about how they tried to get guys but had to stay within their budget. Then his apologists can lick it up talking about how poor we are and that we can't be expected to compete with the Brentford's of the world when it comes to players.

According to the Telegraph several players at Bournemouth are lacking relegation clauses in their contracts. So Bournemouth are keen on getting rid.

Also, this bit is why they are keen to sell: "And, like many clubs, Bournemouth also have outstanding transfer fees to pay for a number of players, with the club believed to still owe £81m to other clubs with only £5m owed to them on deals. "

That's an insane over-estimation.

Year ending last April was a record £113m, so more like 500m at best. i.e. Approx half the cost of the stadium project so all seems pretty fair to me.

Levy licking his lips.

That seems an insane amount (even before considering outstanding wages owed on contracts)... I know they have a small stadium, but what with all the TV money how'd they get into such a mess?
