I don't think Brozovic is really a DM, I think he can play there but not sure it is his best position.

But even it was I think that statement is a problem if true, especially if you around at what we have. Brozovic should not be the best DM we have, if he is that is not a positive about him but a negative about how poor our roster is.

I am not saying we can get any of them but look at some on the other names in regards to Inter that have been talked about in MF, Barella and Tonelli. Both are so much better than him, Those are the level of players we should go after, the kind that Inter is reportedly keeping and reportedly using to replace Brozovic.

Maybe I am overrating we where are in the footballing world but I am not sure we should be happy that we get Inters scraps and now make them starters. I am hoping that we have more ambition than that. Inter is a good club but we are not talking Bayern, RM, Barca or City here. It is a club that we should be matching ambition with I would say.

I think what I bolded is partially the problem. We aren't a club that spends big money. I really don't want to rehash the never ending argument of whether or not we should be a club that spends more. The fact is, we haven't been previously, and we won't be in the near future.

With that said, we'd be swapping out a position-less player for a guy that'd be filling a massive need, and is better than the player we'd be giving up. As far as the other names you brought up, sure, I'd be happy with them. But we may even get the chance to buy them. It's definitely more complicated than "we need a DM, he's a good DM, let's buy him". And I know that's not what you're saying, but Tonali is a good example. He is a young Italian player who everyone says is going to be a star. Would be a fantastic player to sign. However, all the big Italian clubs want him. Chances of luring him away are slim.

TL;DR....Brozovic is an upgrade and if we could potentially get him for a steal there should be no hesitation unless there is a personality or work ethic issue.

Well then that is a concern. It is never a good idea to bring in mediocre players because they fit in a managers system. Especially when there are legit concerns about how good that manager currently is and how long he will be here. If its fit that he wants then get a guy who fits but is much better than Brozovic.

If players like Tonelli and Barella (or players of their same level) don't fit into Jose's system it might be time to get a new manager.
Tonali wants to stay in Italy by all accounts. I don’t really love Jose’s football, but I do accept that he needs different types of players than the ones we have currently.

I don't want to get too focused on specific players because I think we have zero shot at Tonali or Barella even if we would spend the money, I mean more players at that level. I agree I don't think Tonali leaves Italy at all.

I think there are players at that level that we could get and are available and willing to come to Spurs.

I’ll just say again, I don’t think you need “elite” midfielders to play the way Jose is gonna set us up next year. We just need a balance and defensive durability to the midfield that we’ve been lacking.

The name of the game at Spurs next season will be get the ball as soon as possible to Harry Kane or Sonny and hopefully Dele and they will score.
Get rid of our suspect defenders so the other team won't score.
Result is we win games.

He seems to be on his way out:

Do you think they told him Spurs were interested in him ?

You are right my expectations are likely too high, it is just frustrating to see Inter being such a bitter club than us. The big clubs I understand but thought that we could match Inter.

I like the Brozovic-Sissoko swap for sure, just prefer it was coupled with the addition of better players as well rather than Brozovic being that “top player” we would be adding in the transfer window.

That seems like a dangerous way to go into the season.

Trying to win with less talent is not a likely successful route to go.

I don’t understand the idea that we do t need players who are talented. Their is no system I have seen being successful where having players that can pass the ball is a negative.

We saw him take a team from relegation candidates to 6th don't rewrite history. We were destined for a relegation battle

We were 3 points off 5th place and 6 points up on 18th, so I agree lets not rewrite history here.

I understand why people want to use 14th rather than point totals because it sounds so much better to say 14th to 6th as though it was a full season at 14th but the reality is we were not ever in a relegation battle. We were in the 3rd tier of teams fighting for a top 6 spot like we ended up in.

Gio won him over, I'm not disputing that. I'm saying that the only reason he got a chance to do so, and for a consistent run of matches, was because of injuries to the squad. It wasn't because he worked hard in training or knuckled down or any of that - he just happened to be fit and available at the time we needed him to be.

Gio came back and played the last two Champions League matches before Poch got sacked, so it wasn't a match fitness issue that kept him out from mid-November until Boxing Day. Mourinho was playing Winks, Sissoko, etc..over him in midfield.

He took the opportunity, whereas I don't think Ndombele has really been given any opportunity under Jose compared to the run of matches he was getting under Poch, albeit under a team that was largely not working at the time.

I went back and read through the Son thread and you could just copy-replace Son/Ndombele and get most of the same arguments on both sides - note, this is just TWO PAGES but it goes on for hundreds of posts:

Good post, and lets be honest, Son now does fabulous things on a frequent basis, but he can still go weeks on end looking like he can't get the ball under control or pass it five yards, and his work off the ball is still fucking flimsy.

You could also have looked at the first year of Eriksen, Dembele, Carrick etc

And don't get me started on the whole of that lazy fucking donkey Sissoko first 4 years.

How long without an away win had we gone? 11 months? How long was that going to carry on for? Go back and watch the Brighton game and convince yourself we were closer to 5th
