Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

If Doherty ends up coming I think it is similar to the PEH signing in that he has a low floor but also a pretty low ceiling.

I think he is a safer option over Celik, Castagne, Atal in that he has played in the EPL would be comfortable moving over to us so there should be no adjustment period. There would maybe be a question about if he is a proper RB or RWB and how much that matters in the system Mourinho seems to want to play.

If he comes for the 12 million (plus add-ons) reported in the story that would be potentially the most important part as you would think that would allow us money to go out and get a decent player or two regardless of sales or not.

Evey manager makes decisions that are wrong but that doesn't mean you don't back them

If I see managers making clear mistakes I don't support those decisions that is crazy. If a manager is repeatedly making bad decisions I don't back them I hope they are fired.

Why would I support a manager who is making bad decisions? What use is that to me or the club?

I wouldn’t hold your breath, I am betting we come out of this summer breaking even as far as net spend is concerned.

I only see us putting big bids in for players if somebody worth money leaves, Tanguy most likely but far from certain.

Lloris
Doherty Davinson Toby Davies
Lo Celso hojberg Ndombele
Bergwijn Kane Son

Not a bad team at all. I'm desperate for us to keep Tanguy, we just don't have another midfielder that's close to his quality on the ball. Hopefully we get a few more in on top of that, but with a proper pre-season I think that 11 can push for top 4.

I remember when we signed the "Scottish Cafu".
Alan Hutton didn't turn out too well....
Hutton wasn't a fan of his old man, or 'Arry Redknapp (see link below).

If we sign Doherty, I hope the transfer has a happier ending.

Affable Harry? I saw the other side of Redknapp, says Spurs discard Hutton

Scottish Cafu moved from a farmer's league into Spurs and PL..
Irish Cafu has proven he can deliver the crosses on a cold rainy PL night at Stoke. So things are looking up!

Poor Hutton... He wasn't legendary bad..... Even as far as recent history goes he did better than Naughton.

Repeatedly? Who has repeatedly made crazy desicions?

Mourinho has made mistakes here yes but now we are backing him with a squad he is choosing weather you like it or not so he can have a full season with a team he has chosen

What manager has never made a mistake with us? Or one month in do you want them gone for a mistake that you don't like

If you don't agree with a decision do something about it, get your coaching badges, become a coach and out do him at his job

But to be negative for no reason does no one any favours

Well we can debate about whether Mourinho has or hasn't made repeated bad decisions but I am talking about you saying that you back the manager no matter what the decision and to me that seems crazy.

I have never said that a manager should be fired based on one decision I have said I don't blindly support every decision just because a manager makes it. I don't see what's wrong with disagreeing with a managers decision, that (to me) seems like normal behaviour to look at every move and decide for yourself whether it is good or bad on its merits not just giving carte blanche to a manager.

Why do I have to get a coaching badge? Why can't I say I don't agree with that decision?

It is also not being negative for no reason, it is disagreeing with a decision.

No why would I have? Overall I agreed with his decision making.

But if I disagreed with the move at the time I would say it's a poor move, I wouldn't have brushed it off as a good move because the manager decided to make it.

Your prior posts seemed to suggest one should not back a manager if one disagrees with with calls that are made....? (See your Hart > Kane analogy)

"Why would I support a manager who is making bad decisions?"

(If I got that wrong, c'est la vie...)

I think there is a difference in not supporting a decision and thinking they should be fired over it.

I think you can still back a manager and disagree with certain decisions they make. I don't think anyone expects to agree with 100% of every managers decisions.

Even guys like Klopp and Pep make decisions that people disagree with or don't support.

Would still love to get Castagne too to bolster our RB and LB options, but let's say we get Doherty and simply use Gedson/Tanganga as RB and Cerkin as LB backup...

Leaving ourselves a bit vulnerable perhaps?
1 match played against league 1 opposition and people saying Gedson has it to play right back. Mourinho's comments that he played 'very, very well' should be taken with a pinch of salt. Maybe they were for Gedson's ears, maybe for his agent. But he didn't give him game time there last season, and doubt he'll see much this.
