Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Kim makes zero sense even if we don't sign another CB, but if we sign Skriniar and then sign Kim, ignoring much better and younger CBs available for a similar price that will make even less sense.

I don't get why these Kim rumours still exist, although a Canadian journalist for a 3rd rate network is far from a reliable source, he makes zero sense for us to add.
Kim is love.

Kim is life.

When I was on there for a few years, the guy got literally nothing right, bigging up how we wouldn't be beaten to players once the Stadium was ready, people were going to be shocked at our spending power... £50M for Sessegnon was going to be a bargain he said...

He intimated he had youth team connections I recall. BS Merchant who knows shit all IMO.
Hercules' finest moment was when he claimed that Jadon Sancho's £5 million transfer from Shitty to Dortmund was the same scam we (allegedly of course ) ran with Zeki Fryers (see the read-between-the-lines version on wiki below).

When a few of us pointed out to Prophet Herc that Dortmund was a big time football club who would not buy a top young talent just to flog him for a small profit to Spurs, risking legal action from Shitty in the process, he claimed he couldn't talk further because it was too sensitive.

Of course Hercules was correct. Dortmund would be prepared to sell Sancho to Spurs. If we coughed up £100 million. :levywtf:

Standard Liège
Fryers spent the summer training with Tottenham Hotspur ahead of a proposed transfer, but the two clubs were unable to agree on a compensation package (in England, when a player under the age of 23 leaves a club at the end of his contract, his new club must pay a fee to his old club as compensation for having trained him up). Belgian club Standard Liège also expressed interest in Fryers, and as they are not an English club, they did not have to pay Manchester United the same level of compensation.[10][deprecated source] Fryers signed a two-year contract with Liège on 23 August 2012.[11] Fryers played in seven matches for Standard, but with the sacking of Ron Jans in November, he was left out of the squad and ultimately reported to his agent that he was homesick.[12]

Tottenham Hotspur
With Fryers out of favour in Belgium, Tottenham renewed their interest in him in the January 2013 transfer window and reached an agreement with Standard Liège to sign him.[13] The transfer was criticised by the then Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who accused Tottenham of "blatant manipulation" of the rules,[12] having attempted to sign Fryers directly from United in the previous transfer window. Upon signing, Fryers was made part of Tottenham's development squad

I don't think the problem is Toby's new contract it is the fact that we have done such a poor job with the position that he is still the best CB we have.
good point and agree but I still have a problem with this deal on more than 1 front.
But, like many other areas of the team, we refused to bring in new talent, relied on mediocre and declining talents like Dier and Jan and then are left scrambling to bring in new guys at premium prices because we once again made zero proactive moves two years ago to address the situation today.
Yup.
I am happy to hear about the Skriniar rumours as he improves the team but if we bring nobody else in or bring in a guy like Kim, as early as next summer we are going to be wondering who is going to play CB next to Skriniar, especially if Tanganga does not progress as we hope.
See your points and agreee. but really not feeling the Skriniar move. We need pace and athleticism all around. He doesn't address this. This feel more opportunistic than planned.
You may not be a big Fofana or Todibo fan (not sure whether you are or just like busting Five's balls, probably both) but why not bring in one of them and really address the situation, have options going forward rather than just constantly trying to plug holes in the dam.
For the bolded part, both, I don't like choosing.

In a similar vein why not both players for 40-45M? I've seen enough of both to be more than willing to put up with their errors for a season or so. And there will be errors but at least they will be new errors that can potentially be coached out of high-ceiling players rather than the same friggin errors of players we already know aren't good enough. But what we would gain is palyer athletic enough to defend 1v1 situation unlke Toby and dier who are forced to lunge now that they aren't quick enough. If we add a proper DM we should have more protection anyway.

Can’t remember whether it was on here or social media, but I read somewhere there are a few rumours that the naming rights have been sold and that’s why we’re spending more now.

Would tie in with Trevor Birch’s arrival, but could be false.

I like it large part because I think Jose will play him if we bring him in over a player like Dier and I am not sure he would do that if we brought in other players. Not ideal but likely the best option given the manager we have.

But I think the last line does concern me in that I am not sure they are making this move because they see a need to upgrade Dier, which is terrifying that they think he is good enough, but because they see a player that is available for cheap. If Skriniar isn't coming on a "deal" I think they are fine going with Dier which to me shows that this isn't a decision based on them making a smart roster assessment but as you say because they see an opportunity.

I would do that in a heartbeat, but no chance Levy and especially Jose is going to put up with that kind of nonsense.

Better to send out the experienced players like Dier to go out and make those repeated mistakes, the same kind they have their whole career and shown zero indication of ever changing.

He's the prolific 7 goals in 40 games marksman that we're trying to prise out of Benfica.
Lets hope they keep the box firmly nailed shut.

Last season he had 9 goals and assisted 5 goals in 2,197 minutes in all competitions, or a g/a every 156 minutes.

The prior season he had 27 goals and 9 assists in
3,592 minutes in all competitions, or a g/a every 100 minutes.

Seems like the kind of player that would be an okay back up to Kane.

Just don’t look at his record outside of Portugal and you’ll be fine lol

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. And this is part of my Toby point. His creaking was already there to be seen if you wanted to see it, yet, new contract as soon as Poch went out the door.

There is no roster assessment just like there is not potential player assessment. You need a right back then DL searches the bargain bin for the biggest named RB he can find with the shortest contract...and don't expect adequate backup. We have 'adequate' backup in 4 position currently if you count Bergwijn, Aurier, Davies, and Moura. In many of those would be questionable.

I would do that in a heartbeat, but no chance Levy and especially Jose is going to put up with that kind of nonsense.
Still just a wee bit more than slow-assed Skriniar and we'd be set for after Jose. This is why we need a DOF.

Yes, yes, those mistakes are frustrating. You know, the ones that you can totally predict minutes before they occur. *sigh*. I always looked forward to the Dier throughball that he would send to whichever Liverpool forward to have a free run on our goal.

Even though we often sit in a mid/low-block, we are still being hurt by central defenders that lack pace, agility and passing ability. So why should we sign more of them?
Agreed. So how is this an argument against Diop?

I am not saying this for your benefit, but people should know that there exist dynamics within a game. No team (no matter how primitive they are) spends 90 minutes standing in the same part of the pitch. Athleticism is crucially important regardless of your style of play. Just because you may not have to make regular 40-yard dashes back towards your own goal does not mean you won't have to run at all. Or turn.
Preach!

Neither is it true that we always bypass midfield. We do it more often than I would like, but we still make numerous attempts to play though the thirds in every game. And when we go long, it is better to have someone like Alderweireld whose long-range passing is very accurate, as opposed to some cunt that's just going to raffle it.
Yeah, but that 1 skill is overrated when that's the only attack you have. Plus, his negative far outweigh his positives now. I'd rather some fast monster that can defend but just punts it upfield at this point.

Right - but I guess Fulham supporters could be fairly patient after seeing what Michael Hector has brought to the EPL.

We could probably get a similar fee for Foyth, so we could bring him here on the pretence of being 4th choice which would lower the expectations towards him. I would’ve preferred a loan move for Foyth, but seeing this as an upgrade I would be all for it

I‘m happy to sell Foyth, he’s weak defensively and his dithering on the ball scares me. He reminds me of Bunjevcevic or Chiriches.

I'd take that swap all day long. Hell I'd swap most of our CB's for him, even with his flaws.
