Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Still think Skriniar will happen. They know Levy will stick with the offer and not cave in. They dealt with him when they signed Eriksen and we got what we wanted on that deal.
Dortmund are messing Utd about because they know they will always cave in as they did with Maguire.

Hjojberg is not a DM, and Why do you keep mentioning Man City you realise even though we have singed loads of players we have still spent less than last summer?
Let's just say as you have that Hjojberg is the DM and his cover is Sissoko and Winks, then we have the CB's Toby, Sanchez, Dier, Tanganaga , Foyth and CCV the last 2 likely to leave then we also have Davies who can play CB, now i dont know about you but i would feel a lot happier losing Toby for a run of Game and having Sanchez and Tanganga to step in then i would losing Hjojberg and having to use either Winks or Sissoko as a DM and im sure im not the only one?
I agree its been an outstanding window, but this is the transfer thread so we can discuss transfers? and its pointless to keep saying "well we aint City" if there is talk that we have £45 million to spend on a CB then there is money left to spend this window? I just think we would be better off spending it on a decent DM rather than a CB.

I think the point is that Skriniar is a first team CB who will help organise defence etc.

With Hojbjerg in, its unlikely we'd want to buy another DM to compete with him for a first team positioon - looking at the longer term, JM may well be looking to play Skipp a lot more next season in that DM position too (and we need more Club Trained Players in the squad to keep up total numbers of players we can get in the squad).

Not sure we can get both a CB and a DM, both for money and reasons of squad numbers (and with many clubs short of cash we cannot offload first team players).....so JM has opted for the first team CB rather than a back up/first team DM for the above reasons

not really.

PEH is a Henderson type of player, watch him play or if you are bored read what saints fans say he is, he is not best sitting in front of the two CB’s rather he is better as a pressing driving player.

Sissoko is not a good passer and in the modern game the player who sits in front of the back two needs to be a top passer.

Winks is a number 8 moved further back, he is a decent passer but not great defensively.

When people say DM in the modern game they mean a player who is positionally good defensively, press resistant and with a good range of passing. Obviously examples are Allen at Everton, Fabinho at Liverpool, Matic at United.

If Skriniar gets done it’s the only position in the team not filled. We can get away with it against most teams but top teams with one of those players will have an advantage in the midfield battle against us.

Good post. Sissoko can never be faulted in terms of effort but his passing range is far too limited.

I think most people disagree with you, including Jose.

Who are the DM’s that would substantially improve us that are available for something less than silly money anyway? They are one of the most coveted positions and to get one of the best is probably out of our remit. The point about Man City is that people need to at least be a bit realistic. Before the window we were being told we were skint and any incomings would only be funded by outgoings. If we do end up with seven in (which already includes a player who can fill the DM role) then we’ve fucking won this window imo. This is the rebuild we needed last summer

Is Stones better than Dier is the question? Our most calamitous defender.
Dier's been fairly steady (not great, but not bad) this season to date. Sanchez's crossfield attempt that gave away their first goal last night could only be described a calamitous.

Stones is HG rather than an untested Slovak or a South Korean, and at some point must become surplus to needs at City.

As I said, left field, but any more left field than Rudiger?

Please not the 'we won the window' argument. That's what Everton fans have said the past few years and they were awful afterwards each year.
