Ex-Spurs Player Gareth Bale

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I also noticed that he wasn’t moving around that freely like he is more guarded in the way he was moving. We all just need to keep in mind that he is no longer that young guy who played for us all those years ago. He is an older player, who has to be careful with his fitness, but probably a smarter and more composed player by now.

I think this is going to be the hardest bit. It might suit him that there arent fans in the stadium because if we were there, from listening to what he’s said about the fans, he’d be pushing himself hard. Without fans there he might not get so carried away and take it a bit easier.

He is not the same player that left us in 2013 but even if we get 70% Bale of old it will still be special

it’s a bit a of funny one this “if we even get a percentage of what he was it will be good” idea. While I agree to an extent, I also think that as he’s aged and gained top-level experience we might also see that he offers more in other areas of his game... so while it might be that he offers 70% of what he did for US previously, it is entirely possible he offers more of different parts of his Madrid developed skill-set. That might see him take less shots or play decoy to Kane and Son, or sit back a little and offer another creative outlet that means Kane doesn’t have to be relied upon to play the 10 role as much.

All I can say is that I’m fucking excited to see what he offers.

It’s going to be a different player we are getting back. It remains to be seen whether this version is better, worse, or the same.

It'll be akin to R9 in my opinion.

He was the fast, powerful player who could carry a team on his shoulders. But he's coming back as a totally different player. Not AS fast, perhaps not even AS powerful, but alot more experienced, more well rounded as a player but still just as good when it comes to being able to carry this team to higher heights.

For a long time now, when we win freekicks, Im almost sure nothing much is going to happen. But now we have a world class freekick taker. Tanguy winning freekicks near opposite box will now be an genuine chance to score from.

Bale is top 5 footballer in the world. Can he still do it at 31 years old? - well, he's had a very long rest and should be over any serious injury and fatigue issues.

Pair him with Son, Kane, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Alli - he is surrounded by world class talent that actually want him at the club.

We have the luxury to rotate him with Lamela, Moura, Bergwijn, which should ensure he's not pushing his body beyond the limit.

And with the new premier league rules; he no longer has to curl the ball into the top corner. He only needs to aim it at the closest defenders arm. Easy!

yeah, absolutely. I’d also say that a “worse” version of his previous self may still be a very valuable contributor.

I mean, he might also be dross and come onto the field with his golf bag... who knows.

I'm clinging onto the dream that he will be better having gained all that experience.

He could have gone anywhere else for more money or even sat on his arse for a couple years just training and collecting his pay in the sun. Instead he came back to Spurs to bust a gut for probably the only manager in the world who would bench him for not trying hard enough in training.

People forget what a complete footballer Bale was for us.

2 footed, strong in the air, strong on the ball. Free Kicks, tap ins, Long shots, penalties.

He can deliver a whipped cross, or a low cross. He has it all.

If his pace is not what it used to be he is still head and shoulders above people like Bergwijn and Moura.

Famously not 2 footed. I also don’t remember him scoring many tap ins, plus I seem to recall him missing a pen against Werder Bremen ?

Sorry I’ll stop being a facetious cunt, what a ridiculously good player - even if he was a little one dimensional...you know a typical run the length of the pitch and smash it 'top bins' kinda player. Yay Bale !

Tbh, he looked a bit ‘tight’ in the way he’s moving.

Since putting anyone on ignore who makes golf jokes this forum has become very very quiet.

At this rate I may actually take up golf rather than come on here to waste hours of my time.

What is the definition of 2 footed?

My definition is scoring outside the box against a top team on your weak foot.

I think the one footed thing was more present when he was younger, by the time he moved over to the right for us he was regularly putting in crosses/passes on his right foot and I’m sure he scored a couple with his right.

His shots aren’t great on his right (just like anyone with their weaker foot) but he can pass and cross to a decent level with it which is enough to be threatening.
