This could be it for player contracts as well, I can't imagine that players won't be trying get released from their contracts if their national team places are at risk. It won't even be a fire sale, it'll just be players leaving, left right and center, and since I'm sure the club are at fault then we could lose everyone for zero. And that's not just us, that's all of the club's.
You're overreacting here. The players just hit the lotto, bumper raises for most. You think Kane wants to win a WC so bad that he'll play at Everton for £40k pw?

There's a 0% chance FIFA won't allow ESL players at the WC. No one would care, it'd be Olympic basketball before the Dream Team.

What so we've built a new stadium and made top 4 a few times so in your mind that gives us the right to be in this super league twaddle with no chance of relegation ever and not Everton??

great logic

You'd be fucking fuming at this if we weren't in.

I would be fuming yes, but I'm not because we are in it. And am going to feel sorry for clubs like Leicester or West Ham who have taken great pleasure when bad luck has befallen us over the years? Not a chance. We've twice had CL football stolen from us, once by a lasagne and once by a stupid rule that got changed the following year. This is karma for that.

This doesn't seem impossible:

Am I though? Sure, there might be some players who don't want to go and play in a WC.

I'm sure Everton would find the £150 -£200k a week to pay Kane if it means they don't have to pay us to sign him, and especially if it means he's still allowed to play for the national team.

Lol at anyone thinking our players will want to leave because of this.

This will 100% make the top 6 teams more attractive to players, not less. Both for the prestige of playing in the top competition and the the inevitable increase in money.

Again though, don't think it'll happen.

But if it did, surely it would make players like Kane significantly more likely to stay with us, not leave.

And the idea of having a world cup without all the best players? Just wouldn't happen. All the best national teams would lost the majority of their starting 11.

There's a long way to go yet before anything final is decided. But if it does somehow go ahead, the players will end up better off.
This could destroy his quest to be the highest PL scorer of all time. And what would be the point of staying with possibly one of the worst teams in this new elite league and not sign for one of the better ones.

Good post, mate. It shouldn't be hard for Spurs fans to consider all this from an outside perspective. (The inside perspective doesn't look great either tho tbf: whoever is in, if Spurs aren't very significantly improved, they're going to be the Brighton of the Super League.)

But we're still going to be in the PL next season. The SL is replacing the CL. We're invited to it because we can compete, we're one of the richest clubs in the world! 2 shit seasons doesn't make us shit forever.

Yeah, you're overvaluing international football. I get it, you're a passionate football fan - most players, however, aren't. No one is giving up millions a year in salary and more millions in endorsements to play for the flag. Hell, half the players on a lot of international squads don't even have a real connection to that flag.

And you are also assuming FIFA have an interest in putting on a WC that doesn't have Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar, Kane, Pogba, and that Egyptian cunt. They have zero interest in doing that.

Have to admit I'm quite ashamed that we are playing a leading role by announcing the creation of this league.

I'm not naive. I'm aware that those controlling most clubs these days care more about the bottom line than anything else and that money has controlled the sport for years. But at least there was a facade that it was genuine competition. No matter how much money a club had they still had to actually produce results to participate at the highest levels and claim silverware.

Today that crumbling facade was ripped off in one quick, coordinated conspiracy. A conspiracy those running the club were an active participant in. I understand the arguments that one would rather be at the table than on the outside looking in. If you are a businessman in Levy's position you almost certainly have to agree to join the new league.

But it all feels very immoral. Ultimately a football club is really only its supporters. We are not out there kicking the ball around but clubs only earn money because people like you and I spend our own money and free time on them. I'll have to take some time to seriously contemplate whether I want to continue supporting Tottenham Hotspur. Continuing to support the club would be tacit approval to this blatant money grab and I don't know if I want to be a part of it.
