Twitter and Instagram are regularly used in criminal cases. It would be absurd not to. It's evidence if they choose to present it.

There are definitely some filthy racists knocking about on social media who are moronic enough to send racist abuse to a footballer for missing a fucking penalty. Thankfully, they make up such an insignificant percentage of people that use the internet, although that means nothing to the individual or group who is receiving the abuse.
The issue is that the media make it sound like it’s a fuck load of people, making it a bigger issue more widespread than it actually is. This fuels division and makes the problem worse. We don’t treat all Middle-Eastern people as terrorists. So we shouldn’t treat all working class, white British people as racists. It plays into lazy stereotypes, but it seems to be harmless to promote the latter nowadays.
It’s time that governments and social media corporations enforce ID linked accounts and eradicate online racist/homophobic/gender-based abuse etc... (calling someone a bellend should still be allowed though). Bring the hammer down on the thick, racist cunts and start focusing on unity, instead of constantly stoking division and disharmony.
