Who is better, him or Austin? Nice to see both signed down recently
Who is more handsome? That seems to be our recruiting strategy for keepers.
Whiteman used to be regarded as by far the better of the two.
Now, Austin is certainly on a par and may well have overtaken him - he's now called up for E u21 squads (possibly because he's been the regular Spurs u21 GK), whereas Whiteman hasn't been called up by England for about 3 years.
How good is he currently - first choice material?
No, because he's had zero development.

Good shot stopper but from the games we have seen so far, he is dreadful at dealing with crosses/high balls in to the area.

I am in no way saying he'll become as good as Peter Schmeichel... but Schmeichel did not make his debut for Danmark until he was 24, and Man Utd. bought him when he was 27 (from Danish clubs Brøndby).
His son, Kasper, was sold by Man City to Notts County (having Eriksson as their manager), but it wasn't until he turned 25 he made his big break, at Leicester. And, like his father, he was 24 when he made is Danmark debut.
So there is still hope for Whiteman. His reflexes looked good but he did not command his penalty are (yet) and did seem to master high balls into his area very well.
