Why is Lacroix off the table? Because the Volkswagen guy said so? They rejected a bid of 20 million euros from Leipzig.. make that 30 million euros and their heads will turn.
There are also other possibilities. N'dicka or Badiashile? France have 100 promising young CBs.
Can't see us spending close to 90m on CBs in one window. I think the second guy will be closer to 20m. Either way Lacroix is apparently not for sale.

Rodon is a promising young CB the same as those you mention.

My point is we will not be signing any guaranteed top level defender for 20m. It will be another punt on a young prospect. So no guarantees they fare any better than Rodon.

Aurier and Doherty are better than Tomiyasu?

Bale showed up for 30% of the season so it's not a massive downgrade. Plus he only scored against weaker teams and a Leicester team on holiday. He couldn't be trusted against any decent opposition.

None of us know what Bale "showed up for" vs "was left out by"

What we do know is his minutes to goal ratio was insanely good.
People often cite that they came against so called weaker sides, but who was scoring them in games where our failure to score against them cost us points?
1-1 vs Palace and Fulham and Newcastle and Wolves etc.
What about against better teams where we had chances but lesser players missed like 2-1 away to Liverpool. Bale doesn't miss the chances Bergwijn does

Bailey would be an upgrade on them, but not my favorite option. I still like Periera especially if we are going with Tomiyasu/Tanganga as a safe FB. Sabitzer, although not my ideal, would be an upgrade at RW. Thuram for me is a much bigger threat to score and could pay there with previous links to us.
Bailey has gone to AV.
Periera we've discussed before, I was unsure about him after watching him play a few times, and the new West Brom coach thinks he can't fit the high intensity style so wants to loan him out... bad sign.
Thuram plays LW and CF, not RW.

Rodon is decent, probably better defensively than Ben White. Remember when Rashford made him fall over.

Rodon as the 3rd choice would be fine, although I still have concerns with that as you know. Rodon as the 2nd choice with no real options behind is a bad scenario.

If we go with Rodon-Romero and Rodon struggles, we are looking at Dier or Tanganga having to step up, that is not ideal. If Romero gets injured we are now going with Rodon-Dier/Tanganga in PL games.

If everyone loves Rodon so much then at least lets bring in someone similar to him to compete so we have options. If Rodon beats that guy out for the 2nd spot, great. That's awesome, but then he is 2nd choice by merit not just because he is better than Dier.

I rate Ben White much higher than most but he is Woolwich now so fuck him. Arteta and their system will fuck up any talent he had in him anyways.

It wouldn't have to be 90m.

Romero will be 47M. Lacroix would be 25M.
But yeah there's no guarantees a young CB like N'dicka etc. would be better than Rodon. But it's good to have options.

Thuram plays LW and CF, not RW.

Bailey has been available all summer and our need at RW has been there all summer. We could have easily bought him before AV.

Thuram could play on the right as well or we can adjust. Moura and Bergwijn are not natural RW's either so if we are going with them someone is playing out of position.

By most reports Tomiyasu spent more time playing CB than RB for Bologna the past few years and has been playing as CB in the Olympics for Japan. With the combination of shifting to RB and switching leagues and levels of cups there is every reason to think Tomiyasu could have an adjustment period to Spurs, especially coming in late with no pre-season. Even if you like the tactic of having him staying back there is a big risk/question about his effectiveness as a first team RB.

But Car and anyone else you'd recommend won't have to adjust?

Such banter!

I think having a RW that might not be better than Bergwijn/Lucas but has more goalscoring ability would likely be an improvement based on what we need, but I think we can get someone who is clearly better overall and a better goal threat.

So Lucas & Bergwijn are still worse than Lucas & Bergwijn?

Just checking. :dawsonlol:

8 goals in Bundesliga is not really tearing the league apart though. I wonder if Moura or Bergwijn would post similar number in that league.

Still not sure on Dele but at least he's looked up for it in pre season. Seems like Nuno wants him to play deeper as part of the midfield three though - I doubt we see him as a 10.

I also like the idea of Skip DM with PEH and GLC/Ndombele as 8's. I think that might end up as our go to lineup especially in bigger games.
I don't think Dele will be much good as a deeper MF, might be ok against Colchester etc, if Nuno wants him to play a long passing game, then I see the logic but he isn't good enough with his defensive game IMO to play CM as his main position against PL opposition.

Yeah Skip and PEH could work well, both box to box players but we don't really have a proper DM other than Dier.

Caleta-Car would not be adjusting to a new position and would not being taking the same level of step up. He also could have been brought in to the team by now with a pre-season and would have cover behind.

Atalanta are very well run. They went from being a club like palace to a champions league regular in very few years without using cheat money and such. But by god do they look annoying to deal with

Based on these recent reports or in other interactions?

They seem to have been able to smoothly get a lot of deals done in the past, but maybe that is because those deals were mainly in Italy and we did not hear about what a pain Atalanta was.

He'd be adjusting to a new league, new team mates etc. Not a guaranteed step up from Rodon like you're pretending.
