Silva is 27yrs old . When we played Monaco in CL he played as a No 10 for them and ran us ragged at Wembley.
Would be a good signing if we could get him at a fair price.

Much will depend on how our signings settle and who else we bring in over the next couple of weeks, if anyone. I do think we'll be hard to beat under Espirito Santo and even without Kane we have enough quality to win plenty of games.

This is fair...... I'm just sick of reading from people that we'll be worse than last year.

Rom, Gil & Goll can all be considered upgrades on those they replaced and further moves seem on the cards.

I think Liverpool will do just fine providing that they keep most of their player fit this time around.

- VVD & Henderson could well struggle.
- Wijnaldum (under-appreciated) gone.
- Thiago v.slow to adapt.
- Keita not up to snuff.
- Ox-Ch gone.

They could struggle in MF if the chips don't fall their way.

They showed what a good team they still were at the back end of last season when some players were back and they went on a run. I don't think Mane will be as poor as he was last season, or Firmino.

There's no particular reason why they won't struggle further...... Especially Mane.... He's a big mofo; once that freakish athleticism goes he'll fast be a shadow of the player.

Both him & Salah will be off to ACON too.

I also think they have another signing in them between now and the end of the current window. I think they're just shifting on the likes of Shaqiri and Origi first.

Perhaps.... The same could be said about us and our dead-wood.

(I thought Shaqiri had already gone btw?)

Do they though? I'm not so sure.

Unless you are City or Chelsea who have a back-up squad happy to take their coin and not play how do you keep top players happy? It's down to luck and injuries.

Look at Liverpool without VVD, way off the title with no suitable back-up. Lots of seasons are defined by an injury to a key player.

So Winks, sure I don't really see him playing 90mins Premiership games but 20mins seeing stuff out or in Europe and cups I see him having a place.

It's funny how Dele is cut slack because various mangers have screwed with his game but other players aren't afforded the same luxury. Poch and Winks were super close, I can imagine Poch leaving really impacted him.

If he goes I say thanks Winksy you've never failed to give your all, if he stays I hope he improves and contributes to the team.
I actually really disagree with nearly all of that …. Saying pool didn’t have a back up for vvd is more akin to our situation with Harry Kane …comparable back up to these players is not the point…. There will always be significant difference in quality to world class players

I don’t believe dele is cut any slack…. He’s been panned for his drop off in quality and I’m not sure people have blamed various managers …. He’s only had 2 right ? About to be a third …. So I don’t follow that train of thought

So what if poch and winks were close. Football is a transient profession and most are aware of that …. If poch leaving has destroyed him as a player then I certainly don’t want that mentality in the middle of my park

I actually disagree with winks always giving his all … I’ve seen him go through the motions plenty of times and that’s without him being good enough in the first place

Only difference between us and Levy is , he is paid a great deal of money to get things right. He has numerous people employed by him to help him get these things right , he has a duty to do the kind of due diligence on a players attitude that we would not have access to. So I admit I was keen on N’dombele but as a fan his attitude problems are more on Levy not us
True. Poch is also culpable there

He LOANED them 1.7 billion.
The new owner can afford to pay that off.
vladimir putin lol GIF

If Kane is going to City, I don’t know why we wouldn’t be doing everything to get Bernardo Silva coming in the other direction unless he’s just not interested.

We seem to be after another winger, with Sarr and Kvaratskhelia rumored and certainly there’s no better player we could attract than Silva. He was City’s best player when they won the title in 2018/19 and he’d immediately sort out any creativity problems we had since the departure of Eriksen and the the hole Kane would leave.

I’d take 85m plus Silva from City and laugh my way to the bank. Him and Son are roughly the same age and could be the centerpieces of our attack for the next 5 years along with whatever striker we buy. Son, Lo Celso, and Silva behind the striker would be seriously tasty.
Reckon he wants to go go abroad

Sarr is some player by the way

We'll have to agree to disagree in that case FWIW, I was speaking in general terms as I've read the following on here:

"Dele has been screwed by Jose", if that's true then it's fair to say this might be true of others.

I appreciate football is a transient sport but players are humans and it's been documented how some have suffered with a change of leadership and all it brings.

I got the sense from your post that Winks wasn't fit for a squad player however few teams have depth and quality on the bench and suffer when a key player is out.

I can't confess to have watched all of Winks games but i've seen the majority and for me i've always felt he's been one of the more committed players.

So you would take a player City are desperate to sell because they do not see him as part of their plans. Seen very little from Silva that him and 85m can even come close to replacing Kane. I think we would have just sold our best player for absolutely nothing in this market to get a good player but nothing special. Like Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher say Kane is the best player in the league we need to get best player in the league money for him. People who compare him to the Coutinho deal are deluded they got £140m for a sub bench player and used that to buy a top quality CB

Worrying from the writers on the athletic suggesting Tottenham will probably only go for a defender (one who can play RB/CB) and another ST

We've spent nothing so far and we need additions in about 4 positions.

Reliable source that. APPARENTLY***

If Torres doesn't want us. Fine. Move on. He's good but he's not amazing
At least it shows we have the money and we can find someone of that calibre hopefully.

What's worrying about that?

We need both.

....I'm sure the club won't have briefed The Athletic as to our intentions so pinch of salt in terms of the "only" part.

RB
ST2
+ ???? (everyone will have their own opinions on what/who else)

No, my friend you have that wrong. Perhaps this is the genesis of our problem and why you never seem to understand why a youth product won't make it and continue to overrate them. I've said it many times and in your haste you've even utilized it in one of your own arguments. You believe "youth player for Spurs = one to keep an eye on = future WC player" and I look at the player and give them a floor and a ceiling so I have an idea what their scope for improvement is...whether they are loaned or given a handjob by Zidane. Some players raise their ceilings ( see Harold F Kane, striker of Pep's Man City) but the vast majority do not. And to the aforementioned point that you 'made your own', it's the raw materials my friend.

This is definitely at the nexus of our problems, your wilfully naughty misrepresentation of my views on youff. I wasn't even bullish about Monsieur Kane, I'm rarely confident any will make top grade based on what we see at academy levels, but there have been a handful that I would have liked to see used more rather than spunk stupid money and wages on purchasing and/or continually playing mediocre wank - and not just on a football level, but because they can also bring some vim and hunger that said mediocre wank can lack - important if your manager's ethos requires vim and energy.

But I've always been well aware of the pitfalls and difficulty of translating youthful potential to successful career. There have actually been very few Spurs academy players I've actually thought even worth persevering with let alone "future WC player".

And I have always believed playing football is better for their development - once they've hit physical and developmental maturity - than being mothballed in the lemon closet, swatting up on Argentinian etiquette and handshake routines.

But lets try to draw a line under this.

Process only matters if there is truly a plan with clearly stated and measurable goals. Just rubbing your hands together and proclaim all that isn't success a process is a sham.

Amen

No, he's got more guts than what I've seen from Clarke but he also hasn't taken an English league hit yet. So that may change. Last year Ferran Torres (young and pretty fearless in La Liga) had an interview about taking a hit. Early in the season he was bold, everywhere, taking people on. In the middle of the season he kinda disappeared for a bit after a particularly tough one. So we shall see with Bryan who is more dribbler (thus more opportunity for the hit) than Torres.

Hmmm...ok...feeling a little better.

So often players need at least a season to adapt to new shit.....coach/style, team-mates, league, country, language, lifestyle etc. Sometimes they just don't fit, doesn't always make them bad. And sometimes they are fucking bad but, irritatingly, fit in really fucking well and become dressing room fucking influencers, the fucking cunts.

Pau Torres any good?

This is the crux.

2021 PL money

3. Chelsea
Actual League Position: 4th
No. Of Paid TV Games: 27
Estimated Prize Money: £158.2m
Estimated Rebate: £7.3m
Total: £150.9m

7. Tottenham
Actual League Position: 7th
No. Of Paid TV Games: 25
Estimated Prize Money: £145.7m
Estimated Rebate: £6.3m
Total: £139.4m

Just from finishing 4 places above us they made £11m more than us.
Those 4 places put them in the CL with at least 6 champions league games and the silly money per game.
They also won the last champions league last season. £23m for one game plus all the games leading up to it. Probably £120m+ for that run.

We played in the Ropey league which is embarrassing compared to the CL. Pocket money Vs serious income.

This year we're not even getting that.

Chelsea comprehensively out earn us legitimately. And the longer we're not in the CL the worse it gets.
