Whatever Southampton paid for KWP doesn't reduce the amount we effectively paid for Hojbjerg, it just reduces our net spend in our accounting. We gave them something worth 11m. Our accounting for those two deals shows a net spend of 4m, but we spent 15 and gave something worth 11 - which we could have sold elsewhere.

We then had to spend 16m on another RB because we'd sold KWP.

More Doherty gymnastics......

Originally you claimed that we paid approaching 30m for PEH and you're still insinuating as much.

PEH himself cost 15m.... You demanded links.... You got them.

Take the 'L' and walk away, Blakey.

Wow so let's wait an see - spending in last 5 seasons...

Italians are many things but fiscally responsible they generally are not, that and fn levy has the purse strings.......
WTF are you rambling on about? Prehaps you turned up last Tuesday. Because no one here thinks Daniel Levy is about to start burning through Lewis money . The point was about the frankly idiotic idea you announce you have loads to spend before you go to buy. I know its the internt but if you're going to answer questions no body asked please don't tag in responders.

For fuck sake, how short is your attention span ?

First of all - you literally blame him being cheap AND wasting stupid money IN YOUR OWN POST?!?!? wtf.
Second of all - just few pages ago I pointed out the money we have spent - 2019/20 window we burned up 180 million EUR.

"wont spend until we sell", yea right.

For like millionth time - lack of spending has not been issue - we have poured 340 million euros (and it does not include Romero+Gollini potential buy-outs from loan-to-buy deals; if those are included it grows over 400 million) from 2019 summer.
Problem is the return we have got for it.
With levy , he is so cheap that even when he spends big he does it in a cheapish way. Always trying to get some deal. He spends big money on younger players because potentially then they could be great for 10 years so his investment is spread out cheaply. Its always about doing something out of the box because he is a genius and has seen something no one else has.

I'm sure you'd be delighted had we sold all our best players at their prime! you'd be praising Levy to the rafters wouldn't you and not call him a "money grabbing C**t"

What's also funny here, is that you complain about selling Eriksen too late and then in the same sentence talk about "letting Demele leave!"

:levylol:
It's not about selling players at their prime. it's selling them when they're ready to leave and before they're totally worthless. Which is exactly what has been done.
I wouldn't mind if we were cash rich and just went out and replaced them with players in their prime, but that's not us, is it.

We turned down good offers for Eriksen the summer he wanted out. most fans would have been happy to sell but we didn't. Then we took pittance for him 6 months later. Now the same is happening with Kane.

Yea, with that I can mostly agree on.

I think one has to pick his battles. There are some players you can haggle and negotiate and play around with. But with some it is just the case to just go for it. Pay extra 3 or 5 million if needed. If player is quality and squad needs player like this then that's the case to go all out.

I agree that he universally tries to look cleaver and pinch every penny.

And totally ruling out signing players over 23 is stupid. They are valued based on their potential which might or might not materialize. Generally they can increase their value, but at the same time there are moments to also buy players in their best footballing years as well.

I'm painting a picture of the reality of our last PL season.

That's not what "reality" means.

You're merely making a projection.

Anyone can Captain Hindsight.

Only you are toying with hindsight here, my friend.

Fact: TN & GLC have failed to establish themselves in this team under five different managers.

Had we played PEH less and other players more, we may have had better results.

Right, so you're not trading in "reality" afterall.... This is merely a theory of yours.

I put it to you that considering your'e not proposing a like for like replacement (i.e. PEH / Bale) that you're essentially proposing a major revamp of all our line-ups over the course of a season and to make staunch claims over what is rapidly becoming a pure fantasy scenario isn't a particularly realistic hill to choose to die on.

That's not up to them, that's up to the manager.

At this point your continued insistence that a player's performance, application, fitness, mentality and work-rate has no bearing over their destiny at a club frankly doesn't dignify further serious discussion.

The only thing we see eye-to-eye about here are some of Lo Celso's injuries. I disagree about having any inkling into any other human's desire (or lack thereof). People have biases, it's completely normal.
Frankly, if I were a player as talented as Ndombele, I'd be annoyed getting taken off at 70 minutes every match for whatever reason, whilst PEH goes 90 no matter what's the score or what's happening.

This has all been done to death..... (Go visit the Ndombele thread for a refresher.... Former managers confirming he has a dubious attitude.... Him expressing a desire to leave at least 3 times since he arrived... Him being visibly gassed after 45minutes etc etc. etc..... The evidence has mounted beyond mere unconscious bias.)

Not one, not two..... But 5 managers..... And more before he arrived here......

M-a-a-a-a-aa-y-b-e you're the one suffering from "bias" here, rather than the many proffesionals that actually work with him.

Gio.... Perhaps a different mind-set, but ultimately a very similar outcome; a meager contribution that falls way short of what is a) required and b) was expected.

What are their respective G+A/90 though? I'd imagine PEH has played considerably more minutes than Lo Celso.

Ultimately, I don't give a shit about PEHs G&A ratios.... Unlike GLC, he's not in the team with an expectancy to score and assist (in fact his entire first year was being played as a DM!). It's just a stinging indictment of Gio's lack of contribution that he is being out-scored and out-assisted be a player that his detractors would insist is far inferior and has been deployed with less attacking/creative responsibility.

Some might say there's this nebulous thing called form and it's a difficult thing to find when appearances are few and far between.

An honest appraisal however would concede that they've both had runs in the team (TN moreso than GLC thanks to injury, granted)......

An honest appraisal would also say you have to earn your starts on the training field and not merely coast along on the basis of how good you (or the fans) think you are.

Paid to train yadda yadda....

This wouldn't even be a discussion if we were good with PEH as a 90/24/7/365 guy, but we haven't been, and our last 2 managers (who relied on him) have been sacked.

Wrong.... This wouldn't even be a discussion if an ever depleting few wouldn't put their fetish for supposedly technically superior players ahead of acknowledging the actual contribution of players (however rudimentary the latter may be). We've all seen this 'movie' before with Blakey/Sissoko..... Yours is not a fresh nor compelling take and your insistence on blaming a single player for our disfunction as a team is flagrant "bias" (irony!).....

We won’t be buying anyone in the summer if there’s no fans in the stadiums again in the new year. People better get ready with the complaining.
I don’t want to turn this into another Covid thread; but basically the Omicron case growth is so mental it could actually run out of people to infect by late Jan.
So any measures like closing stadiums to fans wouldn’t have to last many weeks (and it may not happen at all).

Signs show that omicron is gonna spread like hell, but its less potent. I think a two week break will do the trick.

and also Igula Igula and StevenPL - if Hjojberg has not been a good option, please come forth and say who should start ahead of him now?

Would we be better off if Winks or Dele would be starting in CM position? Honest questions.

Ndombele and GLC should always start ahead of him. especially if Skipp is already starting as well.

Again honest question (not loaded I mean) - do you think that PEH was the main reason why we finished 7th last year?

I don't think him personally was the reason but the fact that we have players like him starting, and in his case being supposedly a top player, shows why we finished 7th. He isn't a top 4 player and if we want to compete with the top teams we need to have better players than him.
