I'm really separating "new manager bounce" to coaching though. I think this is hugely relevant, we got a new manager bounce under the dinosaur and under Sherwood (probably Mason but wasn't at the helm long enough to really confirm).
With Jose we were still looked shit even when we won games, classic example is say against Southampton, we did have any control, they were attacking us far better (just lacked a Son or Kane up top) and obliged by playing a high-line for us to hoof the ball over the top. But most games, no matter who the oppo was, we were outshot (all underlying stats showed we lacked control and were mostly lucky if we had won). This is what I call a bounce. It wasn't sustainable.
With Conte the stats support the method, an identity is being formed. This is sustainable.
I can relate to it, what went before him was utter turd, but we were still not that good, mainly better at competing but still capable of getting done by Hull or whoever.
Bingo.
With Conte you can actually see our structure, what he wants the players to do, the patterns of play being established and how he uses the system to hide what players can’t do and maximise what they can do. It’s only naturals that they’d grow in confidence and belief once they see how they improve in General play
The way we're coached has hugely improved for sure. I remember under Nuno ranting on a number of occasions about how we had no idea how we wanted to play at all. No style, no patterns of play, fuck all .. it was horrible to watch. We weren't even defensive, we were just a void and hoping for an individual moment.
But I think added to that we have a fiery manager who is making us top running charts. That may wane a bit (we'll always be high up under him, but not top consistently) as time goes on, but right now players are running through walls for him. Everyone has something to prove and a place to earn. That, imo, is at least partly a new manager bounce.
But yes, absolutely an identity is forming, and it's fucking great to have some sense that we have a plan .. finally.
The sample size is small and the stats need the context that Conte has played 6 at home, 1 away in the Prem. That one away, Everton - no goals, no shots on target.
There are very good signs as you describe, but (since you mentioned Southampton under Mourinho) let's see how we fare tomorrow. This, and other away games coming up, I think will give us a fairer idea of how much we've improved.
A cautious and measured appraisal of Conte's short time at Spurs is absolutely not how this forum does things.

I don’t even think they are running more out of “passion”; it’s simply that Conte’s more positionally fluid system requires said movement so it shows up in the “running stats”.

Have to disagree. A "new manager bounce" is something unquantifiable, usually a short term uplift and NOT affecting an entire squad.
We obviously are nowhere near what we could be but we are totally transformed, we've gone from running the least to the most!! This is only achieved with a plan, with a reason to do it and not only that but with total buy-in. This is coaching.
Norwich had a new manager bounce, Spurs has a new manager bounce under the dino and Nuno (under Sherwood too, seen in us being absolutely all over the place structurally but run about a bit as per the manic guy on the touchline) because the not everyone bought in, the team weren't all committed to whatever it was they were supposed to be doing.
So you legitimately don't believe that our players may be experiencing ANY kind of bounce from Conte having been appointed relatively recently? None at all?
Because that's all I'm arguing. I think there's probably still an element of being excited he's at the club and relief at being freed from guys like Nuno. That feeling won't last forever, but yes we have the framework of great coaching to fall back on. Conte isn't reliant on the new manager bounce like your other examples, but it doesn't mean we don't get it at all.
Against tem men you need width so there was no problem with the 3 at the back because the wing backs play as wingers, the problem in part was Doherty not keeping the width so from that POV it was a poor sub but you could sort of understand it cause Reggie was probably gonna get a red card, if we had Sess we would have won that as he would have stretched the pitch and kept the width.
