Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He is one of the better players on our team, LB is one of the few areas that doesn't need improving right now.

How is that not a successful transfer?

Every transfer doesn't have to be 10/10 with a world class player to be successful, especially at the price it took to buy him.
I don’t really rate him. He’s clearly been more successful than most but the kid is just so erratic…. Agree LB is not a problem area, but I’m more hopeful on Sess to be honest. I guess £25M is not mega money.

We have to get more footballers into our side and then we can judge players like Reg IMO

I think their manager rates Podence Neto Chan Trinaco above him.
We will get him for even cheaper if its this summer, so they have incentive to sell him now for 20m
If the manager of a team their level, rates a handful over him, don’t we think we are making a decision a team like Newcastle should be making?
What is our optimism about said player?
I understand Lingard, quality competition is stiff and he is currently better than a handful of our options in terms of desire.

Do any clubs have a decent track record of successful signings in the last five years?

Manure's scouting team is dictated to by online polls
Dippers haven't done much and when their aging players' bodies stop responding to the totally legal "asthma treatment" they will be mid table
I see a few suck off Leicester but they are bottlejobs of the highest order
Chavs have spunked so much on strikers alone. I'd be investigating the clubs who buy chav players as to where they get that sort of money which keeps chelski within FFP. But then again a club that is happy to run up a 1.4Bn IOU to a Russian mobster is hardly going to be squeaky clean.

Villa perhaps?

Is this for real???

IN the past 5 years Liverpool brought in VVD, Alisson, Salah, Robertson, Fabinho, Keita, Jota, Thiago and Konate. Even Origi for the price is a decent buy considering what the paid. In what universe is that not a good record of signings? It is the back bone for them to win the Title, CL title and likely on a run of top 2 finishes for at minimum 5 years. How could you have much of a better transfer record than that?

Leicester has brought in a lot of talent like Fofana, Soyencu, Tielmans, Ineacho that helped them win the FA Cup and compete for top 4. Them being bottlers doesn't mean the transfers haven't been great.

Chelsea brought in players that won them the CL last year, trying to pretend like that isn't impressive is ridiculous.

City brought in the Player of the Season in which they won the title, how is that not good?

West Ham had their best season in forever on the back of them bringing in guys like Bowen, Soucek, Benrahma.

So yes lots of clubs have had good transfers in the past 5 years.

I believe Winks + cash would get us Bisouma. The most marketable of our dire midfield, if we can voodoo them into a Doherty plus cash for Lamptey….
Would be an absolute robbery.

Only way Winks + cash gets us Bissouma is if the cash is 40m+, likely 50m+ or Brighton have inside knowledge that he is going to prison for his recent sexual assault.

I am as critical of the club transfer moves as anyone but Reguilon and Lucas were successful transfers. Not world beating, chest thumping moves but they were fine.

It doesn't mean our transfer moves have been good overall, but those two are fine moves. The fact they are 2 of our best 3 moves in the past 5-6 years is a problem though.
Lucas were successful………

what…..you spend every match thread ripping the guy to shreds.

You can be more hopeful on Sess and the move can still be a good one. Hell Sessegnon cost more he should be better.

The transfer was successful, it doesn't mean he should be starting now or getting a pass for his current shit play,

He didn't cost a ton, was good at times especially earlier in his career and now should be moved on or at the very least only be used against farmers.

As I always say with Lucas, I don't hate him, I don't have an agenda with him and am always fair when it comes to him and others. That is why I can say that the move was successful overall. Doesn't change the fact he is not close to good enough to be a starter for a team with top 4 aspirations.

I am not sure that Ndombele would have worked out if Poch stayed but buying him in the summer and bringing in Jose two months later was about as bad a move as we could have made in terms of how Jose plays and how Jose treats players.
It was very well-known that Ndombele had "personality problems" and it should have been obvious that his personality and style would not fit well in the intensity of the EPL. That is something a top club like Spurs SHOULD have picked up on! He would have been playing in Real M. or Man City with now if he'd gotten the "right" attitude anyway.

Yes there were plenty of warning signs and concerning stories about him in his youth that should have had our radar up.

Did you REALLY make that comparison? Christ
Two midfielders … your post was goals & games

Shall I do Lennon ?
Goals 26 games 266

It was making the point that your point meant very little there is more to a midfielder than a goals per game ratio & in our current squad Moura is the least of our worries

Do you want some more examples ?

Realistically in January we should:
1. Go all out for the best RWB available at any cost, absolute priority
2. Go all out for box to box CM of genuine work rate AND quality, another priority
3. Get an experienced CB to throw in the mix
4. Try and get a difference making attacking player whether it is Traore, Coutinho, Griezzmann… someone to add another dimension
5. If we can’t get a striker then loan one out l, likely won’t play much or at all but we have to have that option

Players to leave in this window realistically only Docherty and Dele.
Then in summer we should really put a foot down and be ruthless.
