Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Al these players coming to the end of contracts are in no rush. Many will hold out, hoping a PSG, Madrid or Liverpool will offer them the wages they want.. Kessie and Brozovic aren't going to just jump up and sign a contract the second Tottenham offer the terms they want. I'd be shocked if the club hadn't made contact of some sort with Kessie and Brozovic to be honest. Apparently Brozovic is happy at Inter and very open to signing a new deal. Rudiger probably unlikely to join a club well beneath him in the league, could be wrong on that, but unlikely to agree to a pre-contract with a local rival club mid-season. Isco was good five years ago. Dybala no longer worth the 200k+ he'll be looking for and unsuited to pace of PL.

Vlahovic, Skriniar, De Vrij not going to move in January. Gravenberch not going to move to Tottenham. We may very well sign Traore.
Fair arguments.

This also speaks to the wider issue that Spurs don't show the ambition required to convince players worth having to join. It's a vicious cycle.

If city, man utd, Chelsea, go for these types of players they likely convince them.

Your post have you calling Tanganga one of our best CB. And you have on four separate occasions unprompted put the name of Tarkowski out as a prospective signing. Do you see why people find your contributions problematic?

Yes Tanganga is our 2nd best CB, that doesn't mean he is super amazing but our CBs are shit. In that same discussion I said I saw Tanganga as being a good squad player that could be a back-up and that he should go out on loan to get game time.

I said Tarkowski was better than what we have but not good enough for our team.

You really struggle with reading comprehension.

Understand, but in recent years January transfers have included:

Bruno Fernandes
Tielemans
Odegaard
Pulisic
Higuain
Even Lo Celso (didn't work out but was a major signing at time)

These players have been bought by teams with an urgent need at the time. If we want top four and a trophy with the best manager this club has seen in decades, the need is very urgent.

We are the masters of our own fate if we do the work and put our money where our mouth is.

I'm tired of hearing reasons why Levy and ENIC should be given a free pass.
Let's face it mate. If you're going to support Spurs, then you're going to accept nihilism as a way of life.

What substantial reasons do you accept? I don't have the clubs on WhatsApp.

No need to be facetious (See: Digne below)...... Just your reasoning for believing so......

I can point you to players that are free agents in summer and could be signed on pre-contract now though and improve this team...

Dybala
Kessie
Brozovic
Zakaria
Isco
Rudiger

You understand that signing a player "on a pre-contract" means that we wouldn't actually get them until the summer, right? ......I am under the impression that players to help us NOW is the remit.

Whatever; let's assume Brosovic was interested in a move here NOW (not the summer); OK that would require a fee (fine; relatively low considering there's only 6 months left on his deal), but is there any indication that the club wants to let said player go? ....Is he more use to them in their ranks

That remains the crux here.

I can also point you to players whose contract expires in 2023 who clubs might be open to selling...

Vlahovic
Skriniar
De Vrij
Gravenberch
Adama traore

Again.... At what point do we (you) start to give substance to the idea that their parent clubs might be willing to let them go now?

Again, that's really the essential part of the debate here.

(We're all capable of drilling into TM for contract end dates.)

EDIT: Digne is also a notoriously good crosser from a left back position, his own manager has openly shared that he wants to leave.

Digne (should we hypothetically want another LB) IS a credible shout.... As you say there are know reasons why he would be let go now.

Why do you think Conte disagrees and continues to pick Dier?

Because I think managers get fooled into thinking Dier is something that he is not.

I also think that, especially early on, managers want more experienced players in the line-up rather than younger/inexperienced players.

I also think that Tanganga is a much better fit as the RCB not the central player in the back 3 so not sure they are in direct competition in Conte's system.

Barcelona signed Ferran Torres but can’t register him, he has to go back to city, knowing Pep, he probably will be training with the reserves or youth team; except Guardiolas sentiments weigh in. I’m wondering, can’t we offer him a loan?
I mean he is quality, we lack quality, and we lack goals.
Just be another temporary fix.

This is not about "benefit of the doubt"

It's about your "See, I'm right" claim despite your evidence not being fit for purpose.
You say the evidence is not fit for purpose but you're also using it as evidence that Conte wants Traore.
......Fuck knows what this tangent is meant to establish.

With the gift of hindsight you'd rather VDV than some of our more underwhelming signings.
You brought VDV up, I'm implying reply to your point.

......But you aren't here or in the case of VDV.

Lamptey has legit injury concerns.
VDV was know to be a risk HENCE the 8m price-tag.

Your simplistic view is "Don't care..... Pay top whack"

You have no basic grasp of "risk vs reward" it seems.

You weight up the pros and cons of any player and if you decide that you want to take a punt on them you then decide how much you are prepared to pay for that punt.

50m for a young FB with a high ceiling = medium risk
50m for a young FB with a high ceiling, but dubious injury history = high risk.
20m or a young FB with a high ceiling, but dubious injury history = medium risk

8m (old money) for a suspected broken VDV = low/medium risk
30m (old money) for a suspected broken VDV = high risk.

I'm out.
I am heeding it, 50 million is the going rate for somebody like Lampety, I don't like the market but that is the reality. You're prepared to take a risk but a medium one, I would go with high risk because

  1. We have a great manager who can improve him and nurture him
  2. 4th place is open, if we get it we can make that money back in the CL.
  3. The signing would give the team a lift and show we want to win trophies.

Yes I understand the dynamic of a bosman signing.

I'll say it again.... show ambition now.

A pre-contract signing of one or two top quality players for the summer shows ambition, it sparks momentum and gives Conte hope that the club will move in the right direction. This may be as urgent as we can hope for but for me, a statement signing in the form of a player that can improve the first 11 is the bare minimum for a manager of Conte's ambition.

Joe must see this is his last opportunity to see us win again before he dies. Conte, a winner, Kane in his prime. Lloris still at top level. Hope he realises that and give some funds. A billion or two.
Unlikely Joe has a fucking clue where we are in the league. He will know how much the average match day revenue is from till 21, block 520 though
