Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

First post here (after getting banned it seems elsewhere). An admission: I’ve despised Levy ever since the ‘Moutinho fax-machine’ episode.
Having said that, I’m sure that our 4th place rivals — Woolwich, West Ham and Manure — are also desperately trying to improve without much joy. January is notoriously difficult.
I’m going to reserve judgment until summer. I’d love to see us move on the deadwood that is holding us back — especially the class of 2019 (our worst window ever and would take Wijnaldum for N’Dombele in a heartbeat) but I fear that some of the players — those without WC ambitions— are happy to ‘do a Bentley’.
Not fussed over losing out on Traore. Wouldn’t be surprised if we were used to get Barca into the mix.

What’s irritates me the most, is that 20 mill for Adama was a steal in todays market.
He was only that cheap because of his contract situation.
Problem is if Conte wanted him, and he had 3 years left - levy would probably go in negotiations anyway, but haggling over the same millions down from, in example a 35 mill fee.

He don’t see the real value anymore- only agenda seems to do a bargain price at whatever clubs quote for x player.

The van der vaart deal seems to be haunting us for ages- Levy is like a drug addict, looking for the same juice he got on that deadline day deal.

Oh trust me, I am judging from this window, if Levy fails to get anybody in this window then it's a complete failure, the manager has said he wants players in, that's really all there is to it.

What I am saying is, if we don't get a squad overhaul in the summer that makes us truly competitive then Levy has nowhere left to hide, seriously, that will be it for many, not just the people like me who already want him gone.

I think even neutrals, fence sitters or people who like him as a chairman will have a change of tune at that point because there really is no excuses left.
Anyone who has any level of sophistication with the transfer market can already see plainly what’s going on here.

The thing that’s going to make the worm turn is when we’re durably no longer top 4 contenders. No Kane, no Conte and just duffing around in mid-table.

ENIC bots on the internet will never stop because it’s a matter of ideology and personal status, but that’s when the average Joe Spurs fan is going to really flip.

See, I don't disagree with the point you are making here, this is valid, I just don't like when people constantly move the goalposts for what we should consider failure.

The point I am making isn't really about my take (which is mine; regardless of how people choose to represent it; honestly or otherwise)..... I'm guessing that most (if not all) would hold similar conviction.

My deeper point in my replying is that; unless one is prepared to hold individuals to task about specific statements they have made, then all the talk of "they" and "that ilk" and "those that move the goalposts" etc. is all a bit hollow and more often than not actually amounts to the opinions of two similarly minded people being conflated(*).

(*I'm sure we all do it; knowingly or otherwise.... In this or comparable scenarios.)

Summer 2022 should be the line in the sand, if we haven't made huge improvments to the squad at that point then I don't see how Levy or ENIC can have any more excuses, it shouldn't fall on the DOF either because ultimately, he was hired by the chairman, therefore, the failure should be on Levy's shoulders, I don't want any BOJO buck passing from Levy.

I do however disagree it has nothing to do with Levy, I think he holds us back as a chairman, he likes the thrill of the deal too much and doesn't allow people to do their jobs, he's a megalomaniac imo, obviously this paragraph is all opinion on my part though, I could be wrong.

You completely missed the point there..... The full statement was "....It could just as easily be Ronald McDonald". i.e. My approach to judging the effectiveness of out transfer business would be the same regardless of who the chairman is at the time.

I certainly made no allusion of waging my finger at Paraticci..... BUT seeing as he's been brought into question: If there is an element of poor scouting to any failings then he absolutely deserves to shoulder some blame.

As for the bolded, you and me both, this is a prime opportunity to seize, Conte has worked wonders for us but this squad isn't strong enough for a top four push without signings this window imo.

It wasn't a scenario I would have predicted, but I def. think it's one we should be attempting to capitalise upon.

I'll be honest, I hadn't heard of Diaz before we went after him (allegedly). Stat sheet and video highlights sure look impressive. But what really...REAAAAAALLLLLY...matters to me and what should really matter to all of you is, what sort of character is he? Is he gonna fight for the shirt like a madman day in day out, or is he gonna diva his way through his big contract and crumble whenever the going gets tough? Also, does he share his compatriot Davinson's friggin habit for a big brainfart each & every game...or has actually got football IQ?

Substance over style, please. We saw what happened when we go the wrong way about it...

Of course..... However, with few exceptions (i.e. The well known loons like the Ballotelli's of this world) you or I won't have much genuine insight on this front and are just left evaluating visible on the pitch shenanigans.

People clinging onto the twitterati stating we are £4m shy of Porto's valuation, that's twisting things to elicit uproar.
If the more credible reports are true we have offered £37m + £9m in performance related add-ons.
Porto allegedly want £50m.
So yeah...£46m vs £50m. You can see how the headlines were written.
Fact is that the £9m in add-ons Levy has offered probably includes us getting top 4 the this year and winning the league next year, with Diaz expected to bang in 40 a season.
Not to mention we have no clue how the payments are structured.
Put simply...it isn't a case of "just" an extra £4m. We have more ground to concede.

And yet Wolves have said they've had no contact from Spurs.
Spurs haven't put out a statement saying they are interested in him.
All you have is a load of online + twitter rumours and you're slating the club..... bravo !
Ahhh...of course.

The whole of the media, sky sports, journalists, reporters, BBC, bookies etc got it wrong because Spurs didn't put out on their official website.........

"We are pleased to announce we are interested in signing Adama Traore "

And some inconspicuous geezer on a forum says it was all bullshit.

Good Lord!
