Whilst if true, it's totally gutting, do people really expect signings to happen without the following:
- Selling chairman to see if there are any other parties interested who would pay more
- Player's agent to ask the player where he wants to play, and to ask other clubs if they are interested
If another, potentially more attractive club shows interest what can you do? This isn't a defending Levy post, but some need a reality check.
If however we simply gave the seller what they wanted first time you can get singings over the line before any other clubs come in
It's a two way street if on the first of Jan we came in and offered them the 40 they wanted he's a spurs player in time to play in all those Chelsea games.
Levy's done his usual tricks and as usual it seems to be backfiring
