Ex-Spurs Player Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

How is “progressive passes” defined? Does the ball just have to end up further up the pitch than it started? Does the pass need to be completed?
So the data in that diagram was provided by FBREF, their definition is:

"Completed passes that move the ball towards the opponent's goal at least 10yrs from its furthest point in the last six passes, or any completed pass into the penalty area. Excludes passes from the defending 40% of the pitch".

FBREF track a whole bunch of other types of passes too (as can be seen here: Premier League Passing Stats | FBref.com).

On progressive passes, only Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joao Cancelo, Bruno Fernandes have more than PEH!!

Some one on the Extra inch or Cock(they all blurr a bit) was ridiculing that progressive pass stat as regards Hojbjerg as they said count the times he fires an uncontrollable ball at a player that losses possession then waves his arms. It did make me chuckle I admit. Like the bloke think the player is easily upgraded.

I personally think he's played way too much football since arriving for us, is a bit jaded/burnt out and needs a lengthy spell where he is rotated often enough to provide for ample rest/training. Not really sure how that can happen in a WC year but, pretty please? In either case, its great to have Bentancur around to help ease the burden.

PEH is a good, solid prem midfielder on his day. It'd be a mistake to ship him out or bin him off too early.

Fair but playing him against good players is a worse idea. He’s anonymous and doesn’t get near Chelsea, Goons etc midfield

Things like that don't sway big deals (and swaps generally aren't common)..... Most teams would prefer the cash to pick their own targets and rightly so.

Anyway...

Let's assume in the summer that Rice, Phillips, Bissouma & Nevez will all be up for grabs as quality EPL-proven CMs... This could work in our favour if we were shopping for one...... Though realistically, our options will likely consist of whoever the cunt clubs don't want. Add Bellingham potentially to the mix and that makes 5 players:

Hypothetically, I'd predict:

Chavs = Rice
Liverpool = Bellingham
United = Bissouma

= Phillips & Nevez still on the shelf

City = ??? (Gündoğan is 32 in October!)
Spurs = ???
Arse = ??? (Sniffing about Nevez in this last window apparently)

The hype around Rice is getting so massive that it's getting to the point of "he's a generational talent, which you cannot miss out on"-stage. And if WH continue to do well, it'll only increase. Rice seems to want a move to the chavs, and if history is anything to go by, then they'll use it to try to get a decent price. While, again going on recent history, United will go nuts and drive the price. If, and we all know that's a big IF, Levy can get his head out of his arse in decent time, then hopefully we can snag Bissouma while those two duke it out for Rice.

Bellingham to Liverpool makes a lot of sense, on paper. Although with the way Dortmund's played hardball over Sancho and Haaland, he's not going to be cheap, and Pool rarely overpay.

Your going to have to bear the weight of received wisdom on this he is good say the masses....he cares, has tats, and is likeable. The later one I fully endorse ....he's also average. I can't wait till he is third choice CM. I'd be happy to have him then. But it will take repeated beatings by Liverpool and City with him doing his best before the penny drops. I just hope we don't suffer via him against Woolwich

All "turds" along with PEH, obviously.

He was fully burnt out after the Euros.

Then returned to play at full pace in full games.

Yet Kane, who tried to leave us AND had extra time off, gets a free pass on his form this season.

It what world does Kane get a free pass? He is as criticized as much any Spurs player this year.

And he at least has a ton of credit in the bank built up from great play in the past. PEH has been mediocre at best his whole career so deserves no benefit of the doubt.

And you could also be describing Winks

Sissoko used to do it and nobody points better

Ok silly jokes aside NorseYid NorseYid how is it a straw man. Firstly we are not having an argument and secondly even by the definition my mentioning two good central midfielders who played for Spurs as opposed to an average one would in no way meet that criteria. Oh and you did not answer the question. So I'm asking again would you do a swap for Rice or Bissouma

.... and another straw man.

Because you attack a point of argument, that I did not make.

I never compared PEH to VW or MD. You just made it up out of thin air.
You really don't know what your talking about (and don'tknow what a straw man is either( I made the comparison which was to illustrated that we had great players in his position once and used MD and VW to highlight it now we have average in Hojbjerg and Winks. I even pointed out this was because I want to win to contextualise my point.

You seem to think we are having an argument I'm just having a conversation about the merits of a player you think is being picked on, you even then threw Kanes behaviour into it which has zero baring on Hojbjergs abilities(That would be an actual straw man). You clearly have an emotional attachment that precludes rational debate. Cool ill remember and not try to chat with you. 👍
