That doesn’t really explain how Eriksen is playing well now for Brentford, without the “dominating” CM2 or that he frequently plays well for Denmark with Hojbjerg behind him. Or indeed played well for us immediately pre (Mason/Benteleb eg) and immediately post great cm, and on those occasions (58% of games) when your boy Dembele wasn’t there. Eriksen had his most productive season largely without Dembele. And I don’t just mean goals/assists, I mean in terms of how much ball he was seeing.

The truth is, whilst Eriksen isn’t blessed with pace or dribble to make time space, he is blessed with an above average football brain and always uses it well to find himself pockets of time and and space - and would often use that time and space more intelligently than the less smart speedy dribblers.

As much as good midfields help keep him fed, he helps them look better by using his brain to continually offer them a viable option - which is why he often used to receive the ball as much as our CM’s. which was helpful because none of those CM’s, good as they were at other stuff, were particularly incisive passers,

I think using his last year as an example of his “total” reliance on others is unfair/wrong, the whole team was dysfunctional, our head coach had lost himself up his own arse and thought playing without a midfield completely was a good idea. Eriksen is not a long hump outlet. KDB would look less effective in Poch’s nonsensical last couple of years.
Yeah, been over these a billion times with you...You know what? This seems like a perfect time for us to rehash it...

I'll pass. Concussion's gone and I remember the bad faith...maybe some other sucker will bite this time...Hey Deuterz Deuterz we got a live one here...

Ok, your point has some merit but it's platitudinous in nature and you're generalizing it to a player for which there is little basis for it. All of it hingers on time, space, and how that is acquired. All that you name aids in the acquisition of it but pace and dribbling multiplies their effects.

Christian Eriksen could be shutdown and often was. It's not to his brilliance that he wasn't either, it was the shit tactics of other managers AND the fact we had a dominating CM2 that afforded him space and when that disappeared it left him half-a-player and significantly less effective. And he wasn't elite. He had some very effective years but there was no clamor for him when he left. Remember?

And you don't have to dribble everyone as pace affords similar threat and DeBruyne had loads and still has a bit. But when he isn't running he can drop the ball on a dime from anywhere on the field. He can receive in tight spaces and move it on quickly, dangerously, and repeatedly.

What exactly are Kulu's attributes that you've seen in the last couple months that make you place his name with these players? I'd suggest you re-watch the last two games to understand why and how he was shutdown. It wasn't hard and if folks hit the film it won't be hard going forward. He cannot create his own time and space. We've already seen him flopping because he's been so stymied. If his "passing, vision, first touch, control, intelligence" were good enough he would have been able to free himself from Cucurella and Henry. And unfortunately, our team cannot provide time and space for both he, HK, and all the others that can't generate it.

Clearly our sample size is far too small to make any credible and lasting claims about Kulu one way or another.

My sense is he has shown his quality (+ had good performances), but opponents have made adjustments to minimize the impact of that quality. They have tried (and largely succeeded) in taking away his primary strengths in recent games, although to be fair to Kulu it seems most of his teammates are doing poorly as well.

Now comes Kulu’s (and Conte’s) adjustments to the adjustments. Let’s see how he plays.

What many on here seem to be forgetting is he's just 21, still learning the game.

Some Spurs fans just love to write off a player.
